IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

church

We had a much quieter week but I wished that the rain had stayed away just a few more days. I know, I know - we need it after that unusually warm and dry summer we had. Still though, I could have done with a few more days of sun. The workers did manage to get the siding done on the front of the church just in time before it started to rain, so we can cross that project off our list. We really cut it close on material. We were watching the dwindling pile of siding and trying to figure if we were going to have enough to finish the project. We make it with about five boards to spare! Now, we will wait to see what the weather is like this winter, but I'm pretty sure we will wait until next spring to finish putting the shingles back on the sides of the building and then get it painted.

Fire

I was pretty proud of my kitty this week. Actually, he was pretty proud of himself because he caught a couple of critters we don't want around. He made sure I saw him as he was flipping a dead rat up into the air and batting it around. And then, as if that wasn't enough, the next day we found another rodent on the walkway. He was playing with that one too, so I praised him and petted him as I took it away from him. I guess he's earning his keep around here this week!

Jan

On Sunday, Dave and I gathered all the remaining boards that had been removed from the church, loaded them into a trailer and headed down to Kahrs' burn pile. Des wanted to get the pile burned before they left for a 4-week trip. Since most of the wood on the pile was ours, we wanted to be sure to help. We finished putting the load from our trailer on the top of the pile and helped Des light the fire. My goodness! There went the old church. After we got the fire going, we had flames 20-30 feet high! We just looked at it as we couldn't get close without singing our eyebrows. With as much 70-year-old wood as was in there, it didn't take long for that big pile to burn down to hot coals and ashes.

Trandum

Earlier in the week, on Saturday, we attended a memorial service for two outstanding community members. Walt Trandum had passed away in July and his wife Yvonne died in September, so their family decided to hold a "couple" memorial. Walt was mayor of our town several different times and Yvonne was always growing flowers for the garden sale. Since they were members of the Lions Club, the memorial was held in their hall in Rockaway Beach with a lot of Lions attending.

This week, it has been this and that going on. I have been indoors much of the time because of the rain - sneaking out between showers to do some yard work. Dave spent most of his time out in his work shop making sawdust. I am still going to the physical therapist and water aerobics. I had to work at the OSU Extension Office for the Master Gardeners on Monday (one of the nice days this week). We made a trip to Home Depot and picked up our windows that we had ordered and I took back some of the bathroom tiles for the shower that were unsuitable. So this week has just moved along.

I just found out that Leslie and her family will be here this weekend. Hopefully, the weather will be nice for them.

Well, I know this is Friday the 13th, but I hope your day was lucky just the same.
