IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

This week has been a week of recovery from my face plant in the Safeway parking lot last week. Boy, was I a sorry sight with nine stitches in my lower lip, a broken tooth, a black eye and black and blue marks everywhere. I tried to stay in the shadows most of week so I wouldn't scare anybody. I felt like Magalena Hagalena! But I am getting back on my feet and I went to the doctor yesterday to have myself checked out. She took my blood and has ordered an audiogram to see how my balance is.

I also went to the dentist this week to see about replacing the tooth (crown) that I broke off when I fell. He wants to attach a new crown to the front tooth next to it and then bridge the two, but wants to wait until the front tooth is better. There was a lot of trauma to the front tooth and he wants it give it a couple of weeks to heal first. That's the plan for right now. Meanwhile, I have to run around with a missing tooth!

So the activity around here is quiet, I have been bored out of my skull with all this nice weather and me having to stay inside most of the time. I did manage to water my plants and garden. The tomato plants are starting to produce and the cherry tomatoes (Sugar Rush) can't get ripe fast enough, they are so sweet. There is lots of lettuce too.

We closed on the house next door this week. It is officially sold and the new people are moving in this weekend. There was one controversial issue that kind of made us angry. We noticed on the closing papers the lender had listed the property as being on Gamble Road and we argued that it should have been "Street". After all, the city, county and property taxes all list it as "Street", but that wasn't enough for them and they insisted on the name that doesn't even exist. We had to sign a waiver to leave the property as "Road" instead of "Street" so they wouldn't have to redo all their paperwork. What can I say?

One of the stipulations on selling the house was that we would remove the wooden stairs that had joined our two properties. The stairs were not safe and we only put them in so we wouldn't have to go all the way to the front of the house to visit when Leanna lived there. Anyway, we got one of the Cuban laborers over and he took the tractor to them and removed them. Dave hauled them down the burn pile at Kahrs'. We then bought a trailer load of dirt to fill in where the stairs used to be. We had our friend Luis helped with putting the dirt in place. It looked really good, except I knew that the new owners had a 7-year old boy and I had watched when they came to see the house. The boy was jumping over hedges and climbing around and just generally being a boy. I just knew that the nice dirt hillside would be too much a temptation for him not to ride his bike down it or something, so I bought a Bayberry Bush (a "Kid Killer" as my mother-in-law used to call it) and planted it on the property line. The Bayberry is really nasty as it has sharp thorns on it and I hope that will deter him from using it as a bike ramp!

sign

Gamble is a dead end street and is really just a gravel road with no curbs or sidewalks. We get a lot of vehicle traffic with people who are either lost or are looking for a way through. Then they have to try to get turned around and headed back to the highway, usually using someone's driveway. We have been asking for a sign that says that they can't get through, but the State (who has responsibility for that sort of thing) has been dragging their feet on the issue. The city finally decided to go ahead with it rather than wait for a ruling and we noticed yesterday that we now have a new sign. Now, let's see if anyone will actually read it!

Dave has been busy working on the 17-foot boat that he just got for fishing. He found some old fishing reels that belonged to his dad and some fishing poles. I don't know how many trips he has made to the local marina to get new line on the reels and for advice on different lures, etc.? He should be about ready to go fishing one of these days!

Speaking of fishing, we have seen several boats (early birds) out in the river trying to do just that. Not much action however but it is early. We spotted a couple of seals poking their heads out of the water, so you know there are fish in the river. The gossip is that most of the fish being caught are still at the mouth of the river, so there is time before they move on in.

We had some visitors come and stay this week. Dave's grand-nephew, Conner and his girlfriend Julia came by. Conner is home from college in Michigan and is spending the summer with his parents in Bothell. Julia also lives in Michigan and he wanted to show her some of the Pacific Northwest. They went down to the Tillamook Cheese Factory (doesn't everyone?) and down the scenic route to see Cape Meares and watch the sunset over the ocean and then back to our place for the night. They had to leave to go back to Bothell the next day but we enjoyed having them here for their short stay.
