IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Compared to last week, this week has been pretty quiet around here and we have had a chance to catch our breath.

Last Saturday, we spent most of the day as volunteers for the City of Wheeler's annual clean-up day. Dave and two other guys drove around town picking up stuff in his trailer that people were unable to bring to the clean-up site. And I helped by putting stuff in the dumpsters as the people in cars arrived. We had another good year with one dumpster full of metal for recycling and three more dumpsters full of all kinds of stuff. The most interesting thing I found was a marijuana leaf! We made a rule that no one could bring yard debris until 1:00, but by that time we didn't have any room for yard debris as the dumpsters were all full. We only got rained upon only once and so it turned out to be a pretty good day.

The rest of the week went by pretty normal. The weather was nice enough for me to do some work out in the yard - which I over-did - and was stiff and sore for a couple of days. My vegetable garden is coming along, if I could get those darn slugs to leave it alone. The slugs just about chewed up most of my green beans! I put out some slug bait and that kind of slowed them down.

It was a work party on Wednesday and we got a lot of weeds pulled in the park. We are way behind on our weed pulling because of the rainy weather and sometimes I think the weeds are going to win in the long run.

On Wednesday night, we had Luis and his Cuban buddy Miguel for dinner. There were working in Rockaway Beach and needed a place to crash for the night. I had invited them for a turkey dinner (at Luis' special request) and I baked a pumpkin pie not knowing that was his favorite pie. It was fun talking to Luis' friend Miguel (with Luis interpreting) and learning about Cuba. I have put Cuba on my bucket list as a nice place to visit. The people seem so warm and friendly.

We had our monthly Park and Rec. meeting on Thursday and talked about how we can improve the annual clean-up day for next year. This year we moved the location down to the Waterfront Park as it is a better location with more room. So it was unanimously agreed to keep this spot from now on. The meeting was extra long this month as we also talked about the budget and always "the bottom line" as to how much we can spend for our projects in the parks.

Sign

The house next door is moving along; the realtor put a "Sale Pending" on the sign and the buyers had a house inspector come by and check the place out. The next thing is an appraisal. I didn't realize there was so much we had to do to sell a house and all the papers we have to sign.

Monday we are taking a road trip to the Tri-Cities in Washington. Dave's cousin Dennis bought Dave's nephew Luke's boat (which we have had here at our place) and we promised that we would deliver it. Dennis was down here in May and we tried to deliver it soon after that, but Dennis had to cancel. Since we have been so busy getting the house ready to put on the market, this has been the first opportunity since then for us to deliver the boat. It's a six hour drive up there and we are going to make it in one day and return the next, as Dave has a city council meeting to attend to on Tuesday.
Oops, never mind. Dennis just called and had to cancel again. So we will re-schedule - for the third time!

To all you fathers and grandfathers out there, have a great Father's Day!
