IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It's been another busy week trying to get the property next door on the market by Memorial Day weekend. I worked in the side yard cutting down huge blackberry bushes. Some of the stalks were over an inch thick and I had to use my king-sized loppers to cut through their tough branches. It took me two days to get that completed and I discovered there is a house next door! I also uncovered a Rhododendron and a picnic area where the raccoons ate! We piled the brambles in the middle of the driveway and we will burn them in a couple of weeks when they dry out a little. Dave got the Kubota tractor out and removed some sod so we can make a walkway to the front porch. On Sunday, our daughter, Leslie will be down for a couple of days to help me get started on painting the inside.
We had a nice visit with Dave's cousin, Dennis Nichols and family. They were staying in his boss' place in Rockaway Beach over the weekend. They live in the Tri-Cities area in Washington and enjoy coming over to the ocean. They gave us a call to say "hi" and wanted to have to a recommendation for fresh seafood, so we took them to the Fisherman's Korner in Garibaldi which is located on the pier overlooking the Tillamook Bay. We had a nice meal and were able to catch up with Dennis, Sandra and their daughter Desi and her family. Of course we failed to take a single photo while they were here. While he was here, Dennis saw that Luke had his little boat for sale and so he bought it. We will deliver it to him the end of the month. Even though it was Luke's boat, we kept it here, maintained it and used it. Now that it has been sold, Dave sees an opportunity to buy a replacement. Our family used the other boat quite a bit, so he would like to get one a little bigger so that everyone can fit in it comfortably.
The Master Gardener's plant sale is this Saturday and I will be helping with that both today to get set up and then Saturday for the actual sale. We always have a big turn out and have quite a variety of plants.
We got a graduation announcement in the mail the other day from our granddaughter Ashtin. She graduates from Silverton High School on June 8th. She is planning to attend Western Oregon University this fall. She wants to be a teacher and WOU is one of the best teacher colleges around. It sure is hard to believe that she is going to be eighteen this summer. Our very first granddaughter and she really turned out to be a special person. But she is my granddaughter and I am a little prejudiced.
I have been having the usual aches and pains with my knees. It really makes it hard to get outside and get anything done. The Park and Rec group had a work party on Wednesday and I had to excuse myself because I could hardly walk. It was the first sunny Wednesday we have had all year and I am glad the rest of the crew was able to get out there and spruce up the park.
We actually had a couple of nice days this week. Warm enough for me to get a slight sunburn anyway. But the fog has been rolling in and out, which keeps us guessing as to whether the weather is going to be warm or cool.
