IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It seems like March is marching on, this month is almost over already!!
We had a busy weekend last weekend. Leslie's husband Jason called up and asked for some guidance on repairing the utility room water damage. The project started out just redoing the floor and ended up with a lot of dry rot on the subfloor and walls. After Jason had removed the old flooring and the cabinets he discovered a lot of damage. The idiot who installed the cabinets when the house was new used his drill instead of a stud finder to locate the studs and upon doing so, he drilled a hole in the drain pipe that comes down from the upstairs bathroom.
So some studs, sill, exterior wall, pipes and subflooring all had to be replaced. He wasn't too anxious to do it himself because he was afraid that he would knock the wall down without the support of the studs he had to replace. So we came to their rescue. It was an all day project and we finally got to mudding the new sheetrock before we called it a day. It looks as good as new now. We don't know how long the leak was going on as the house is 12 years old and two other families had lived there before. Maybe they didn't have two teenagers who took showers in that bathroom.
We also had a scare over the weekend. Paige was at a soccer tournament in Las Vegas and we got a call that she had suffered a concussion. Apparently she was going for a header and the sun got in her eyes and she took the ball full force in the face. They took her to the hospital and did an MRI which reported no damage and then they transported her to a pediatric hospital where she was to spend the night. However, the doctor decided she was good enough to be released but only if she didn't play any more soccer for the rest of the week. She had a great tournament up to that point, but this is the only picture we got - Paige sitting out the final game wearing her "post concussion" shades. That was a real scare but she seems to be mending well this week.
Now that the basketball and soccer seasons are over, Paige's sister, Ashtin decided she wanted to get involved with another sport before she graduates, so she is playing on the varsity golf team at school. This is her first experience playing golf and she really seems to like it.
My other granddaughters are on Spring Break this week and so Lara packed them on a plane and they flew down to visit their friend in Los Angeles. I hope they will bring some sun back with them.
We had a break from the rain on Sunday, so I worked out in my yard. Actually, I tackled some more ivy that was choking out a couple of shrubs. Some of the vines on the ivy were 6 feet long and as thick as my finger. It had been a couple of years since I had cleaned them out but it doesn't take long for the stuff to come back!
We also had a few friends over Saturday night for dinner, a couple of gals that I have water aerobics with and their husbands. We had gotten together with them a few weeks ago and it was time to return the favor. I fixed my famous macaroni and cheese with crab. It was a fun evening and I enjoyed their company.
I finished up with my Master Gardner's classes this week. This time we learned about weeds and how to identify them and keep up with them. The Master Gardeners are preparing for their annual plant sale so I will be busy starting next week re-potting tomatoes for the sale. We pot up about 400 tomatoes of all varieties for the sale and usually we sell out.
Dave got the tractor and both trailers stored in the church this week. He also installed some LED lights we got at Costco. It almost looks like daylight in that old building! He's now doing a major clean-up in the boat barn and that includes repairing some old fluorescent fixtures, so we can now see in that building again too!
We are going into Portland today to present our taxes to the CPA. I hope we don't have to pay any extra taxes this year.
