IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Oh no! Not another rat's nest! We spent most of the weekend taking down the rest of the sheet rock in the church where we came upon more nests. We thought we had gotten them all. We had to remove all the stuff that we had stored in the foyer in order to take out the rest of the sheet rock. We had extra shakes, shingles, an old welding machine and a mushi kamodo (a Japanese cooking stove that Dave had gotten in Japan on one of his Navy tours) to move out before we could tackle the sheet rock. Afterwards we gathered up the five garbage cans full and took them to Cart'm just in time as it was beginning to snow. By the time we got back home we had a nice layer of white everywhere.
The snow didn't last long as it started to rain after we got an inch or so. We had to make a trip into Portland on Wednesday so we were watching the weather pretty close. we were a bit concerned as there was packed snow all across the Coast Range, but we didn't have any problems. We had to go to the VA hospital where Dave had an ultrasound on his legs. The doctor at the VA hospital wanted to see if there were any blood clots. They didn't find anything. The doctors are trying to figure out what is making his legs swell and why they are so sore all the time. So far, no answers.
We had to batten down the hatches on Wednesday evening as we had heavy rains and steady winds up to 35 mph at our home. There was a lot of flooding going on and the island in front of our house even disappeared. It doesn't appear that we lost anything - a few branches in the yard and the BBQ had toppled over. Dave was a little worried about the shakes on the roof of the church that we had just gotten done. Some of them were sure flapping in the breeze but they stayed intact.
I felt sorry for the poor birds trying to fly in the wind, they would get one wing flap forward and two back! I ventured outdoors long enough to put the feeders out hoping that they appreciate my efforts. As it was, I was holding on to the fence to keep from being blown away! I hadn't seen much of my cat, he isn't a foul weather creature and probably hunkered down somewhere for the storm. When the wind quit blowing last night, he was there. He'll usually find a way to venture out to get his free meals.
I tweaked my bad knee again and so I have been hobbling around all week. I was out pruning one of the trees by the driveway which is on a slope. I slipped on the ivy under the tree and landed on my backside. That wasn't so bad except I got my foot tangled under some of the ivy and it bent my leg back pretty bad. I have been wearing my brace and applying heat and cold to it and it seems to be better. I hope this isn't going to be the story of my life as I do love working out in my yard.
