IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

collage

Wow! What a soccer game! We went into Hillsboro to watch our granddaughters, Ashtin and Paige play for the State Championship on Saturday. Silverton was playing LaSalle, the top ranked team in the league. LaSalle scored the first two goals and at half-time it was 2-0, but then Silverton scored the next two goals in the second half tying the game. Paige scored one goal and assisted on the other. We love the photo on the left taken just after she scored the tying goal in the game. After two ten-minute overtimes, the girls had to go at it with penalty kicks and LaSalle won by two. What a way to end a season! Our Paige was given the outstanding player award for her team. She is also up for Athlete of the Week in a competition sponsored by the local newspaper.

Church

The guys have been busy working on the Church project most of the week. We got the floor finished (it's beautiful - looks too nice to use) and the next step is to support the ceiling with posts and beams. They also want to put more ventilation around the foundation to allow more air circulation. Then that should do it until we can save up some more money.

I have been having fun with my wildlife. Each morning I set out some peanuts on the deck rail and the Blue Jays are perched and ready to swoop down and grab them. One morning I forgot and when I was outside later that morning, boy did I get the word! They wanted to know where their daily rations of peanuts were! They are sure smart. I have also noticed that birds have been enjoying the berries on the Caledonia Tree. I hope they don't get drunk and fly into the window!

moon

Did you see the Super Moon this week? We didn't. It was too cloudy that night. The next night, the clouds were covering most of the sky when it was out, but we caught a break when the clouds cleared before dawn and had a chance to see it. Our friend Ray Hakala - who is also working on the church project - took this photo about that same time. I guess it won't be around again for a while - at least in my lifetime anyway. We have had really high tides because of the moon and along with the heavy rains, the island in front of our place was completely covered at times. It has been really cold at night and sure feels like fall is here and winter is just around the corner.

We are having all the family down here this year for Thanksgiving so I decided I would do a little shopping ahead of time. I got a turkey and a few of the fixings but when I went to look for some Thanksgiving napkins, all I could find was the Christmas stuff! Good grief! I guess I have to look for decorations at Halloween time! Anyway, I did find some napkins and they were on the close-out table. We hope everyone has a very happy Thanksgiving and don't eat too much!!
