IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It has been one of those up and down emotional weeks.
First, I don't normally discuss politics on my journal, but I was shocked like the rest of you of the outcome of the election. Enough said. Dave did win his city council position (running unopposed) but he did get the most votes of all the other candidates who were also running unopposed. So it will be another four-year term on the council and the only reason he ran again was because no one else wanted to and he felt his civic duty to fill the seat.
Another highlight for the week was our two granddaughters Ashtin and Paige who play on the same soccer team. The Silverton Lady Foxes are going to play in the state championship game because they won their game with defending champion Summit in Bend earlier this week. We got a play-by-play call from the parents by text message - giving us scoring updates. The final score was 4-3. Paige had two of the goals. Our little Paigey is getting a lot of attention. Here's a quote from the Summit head coach in the Bend Bulletin after the game. "...they really have a player. You could venture to say she's one of the best players easily in the state, and she's only a freshman and she was on fire tonight." The championship game will be played in Hillsboro on Saturday and you can bet that we will be there rooting them on.
Dave and I drove into Portland for his oncology appointment with Dr. Trubowitz. She has moved from OHSU "Pill Hill" to southeast Portland. Our appointment was at 10:00 a.m. and so we left plenty early since we knew we would hit rush hour traffic once we got into Portland and boy did we! We had put in our GPS ("Never Lost Nancy" we call the voice on the GPS) where we wanted to go because we hadn't been there since she moved her office. We knew it was out by Mall 205 but she had us taking Portland city streets instead of going straight out there on the freeway. We wonder about her sometimes. Anyway, we found our way with Dave's cell phone giving us much better directions. The only thing was - when we were getting checked in at the office - his blood pressure was a little high. But mine was too after getting through all that traffic in time for his appointment. Otherwise, his doctor was pleased with him and he doesn't have to go back to see her for 6 months.
The church project is coming along. We got the roof done and the little cupola on top of it repaired. Now Dave and Ray are back working on the inside, getting ready to put the tongue and groove flooring down. After that, they will add some support beams to hold that sagging ceiling and I think that is about all we will do for now. We need to save up our money to continue the project with the exterior shingles and painting, which can be done next summer when the weather is warmer. Also, Dave and I have been tearing down the sheet rock, which is a major job. The exterminator wanted the building down to bare bones so he can attack the critters that are living in the wood. When he begins that - after we finish this part of the project - we won't be able to go in the place for three days.
This weather has been something else! I managed to get outside and work out some frustration on Wednesday. I got most of the leaves picked up this round, but I am sure there will be more leaves to rake before it's over. Our weather has been so warm that I have an Azalea blooming! My garlic that I planted in October is coming up already! It was 70 yesterday. Are we sure this is November?
Well, all you Veterans out there, have a nice Veteran's Day and thank you so much for your service to our country.
