IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Hold on to your hats, because we are expecting wind gusts to 70 mph on our coast and lots of rain. Saturday, the potent remains of Typhoon Songda will come charging in on the jet stream with up to 90 mph here and oodles of rain. We should have 35 foot swells and with a full moon on the rise, which will even cause higher water. So we are battening down the hatches and hauling in the deck furniture, taking down the hanging fuchsias and wind chimes. We are hoping for no power outages but one never knows. That's why we got the new generator last month; to be ready when something like this happens. We tested it out yesterday just to make sure it was ready to go. I am posting this early, just in case we don't have computer power on Friday.

That's what's happening at the moment, but let me fill you in on the rest of my week.

I made it back into the dentist on Tuesday to get my new crown which I am still adjusting too. It is beginning to settle in, but at first it really felt out of place. After the dentist, I ran a few errands before I headed back to the coast. One of things on my to-do list was to take Dave's cell to the repair shop. His phone died on him this week and so I took it with me to spend some time at the Verizon store to figure out what was wrong with it. It turned out that the socket that you plug in the charger was broken so it wasn't charging. They had to order a new phone which was delivered the next day. After the new phone came, he had to call the service tech and get walked through on how to transfer all his data from his old phone to his new phone. That phone call took four hours and the following download took 10 hours, so he was without a phone for a couple of days. Guess what? He lived to talk about it!! It is amazing how much you rely on your phone, isn't it? After a couple of stops - Trader Joe's and Fred's, I was on my way back home.

Dave and a couple of guys (Ray Hakala and Jerry Caldwell) have been working on the old church on our property. There was a lot of work that had to be done under the existing floor and that's where Jerry came in. It takes a younger, agile guy to get under there and help to remove the old beams and put new ones in that tight space. They also had to take out some of the remaining flooring to get to where they could begin to make repairs. One of the things that needed doing was to flatten the old dirt floor and get all the rocks out of it. That's what I've been doing much of the week. Anyway, they replaced one of the beams on the floor and then they installed new joists and laid about two-thirds of the subfloor. They will finish the subfloor after they replace the mud sill which they discovered was rotten on one side. We also discovered - now that it's raining hard - that the roof was leaking, so we need to take care of that issue before they continue rebuilding the floor. Oh the joys of trying to fix up a very old building.

We got a phone call from our granddaughter Ashtin who wanted us to attend her soccer game on Wednesday night. We couldn't say "no" to that and besides, she told us that she was giving up her bed so we could spend the night. Her school was honoring the seniors who played on the team and Ashtin was one of them. The coach let the senior players play the first half of the game where they were behind 2-1. After the half, the coach put in some of the underclass players (including Ashtin's sister Paige, who is a freshman) and by the end of the game, they won 6-2. Afterwards, the coach gave a little speech about each senior and they were given a bouquet of flowers and a quilt with their name on it. We headed home early the next morning as we wanted to beat the predicted storm that was approaching.

Dave finished his Occupational Therapy on Wednesday. His wrist is slowly getting better, and he feels the therapy really helped, but the therapist told him that they've done about as much as they can, and the limited range in that that wrist may be more or less permanent. He's working in the shop (and the church) every day, so he's able to cope with any limitation.

That's all the excitement down here. I'll fill you in next week on how we survived the storms.
