IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Well, September has come and gone but by the looks of the last few days, summer is still hanging on. We have had some warm sunny days and beautiful sunsets. The night sky almost looks like it is on fire! This photo was taken from our friends Des and Donna's wharf just down from our place. We also enjoyed the elk that were grazing on the island all week but they have moved on. They must sense that hunting season is approaching.
My garden is wrapping up with a few tomatoes and beets left. I planted some lettuce, but have them growing in the greenhouse. So glad I did as I planted a few in the garden and those darn slugs ate them up! A friend gave me some elephant garlic which I will plant next week.
I feel guilty as this week I have been laying back. I am trying to keep my knee up and giving the warm and cool treatment to it. I went back to the doctor on Tuesday and he didn't want to drain it. There is a little swelling as there is still some fluid in there. He said to keep doing what I am doing and if it isn't better in four weeks than to come back. I started my water aerobics classes on Monday and have been using the noodle in the water to exercise my knee. So I have been spending a lot of time watching baseball games and reading!
Dave's nephew and his family, Dean and Bren were down over the weekend to get a few things done around Dave's sister's place. Dean crawled under the house and got the telephone wiring replaced where the rats had chewed it. They also sprayed the weeds and mowed the lawn. They came over and brought dessert to share with us one night. They have been living in an apartment since they moved to Seattle from Michigan last June but they just bought a house in Bothell and are planning on moving into it in November. So they won't be down here until they get settled and wanted to get a few things off their to-do list.
However, I haven't been all that lazy this week. Dave built a doll bed for our youngest granddaughter, Jordyn for her American Girl doll. I got busy and painted it and then painted some hearts on the head and foot boards. It turned out great and we hope she likes it.
I also divided some Japanese Iris in my garden. Those plants have roots that are tough as nails and I finally had to get out my Hori Hori knife and cut them apart. I wanted to plant some of them in the Waterfront Park. I also planted some daffodil bulbs in planters for the post office so when spring arrives we can change the pots around the flag pole. While I was doing that, I bought some mums and potted them and exchanged them with the geraniums that had been at the post office all summer in the flag pole planter for this fall. We try to change the flowers four times a year so you kind of have to stay ahead of them.
I helped Dave lay some conduit so we can power the fountain without having to run an extension cord across the yard. I dug the ditch and he's doing the rest. It may take a while because he's modifying the power system to put it on a timer. He got that project started, but with all the stuff he has going all at the same time, who knows when it will be finished!
Blazer season is just around the corner and Dave had a production meeting with them on Thursday. While he was attending that, I visited with Lara in West Linn. Dave had some shopping to do while we were in town and we were invited for dinner and then headed back home after that.
Dave's wrist is improving each time he sees the occupational therapist but it's still slow going. Wednesday was going to be his final session, but she decided to bring him in one more time a couple of weeks. Each time he come home from his session he is giving a new "toy" to use to strengthen and stretch his tendons. He has also been busy out in his workshop making sawdust which has helped.
