IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Our friends Stan and Laura from Virginia left last week. We had such a great visit and really hated to see them leave but now it is back to the usual around here.
Because it was our 51st anniversary on Sunday, we decided to take in two plays over the weekend. The first was Saturday night in Tillamook at the TAPA Theater where we saw "The Octette Bridge Club". It was about these eight sisters who get together once a month to play bridge and the setting took place in 1938 thru 1948. I thought the first act was kind of boring and I was about to ask Dave if he wanted to leave at intermission, but we didn't and I am glad we stayed to see the whole play as it turned out to be very good. Sometimes you just never know. The Sunday afternoon play was in Nehalem by the River Bend Players Reader's theater and the name of this play was "Live, Love and What I Wore". This was also performed by eight women who reminisced about what they worn at different phases in their lives. This was really performed well and I enjoyed this one. That evening, we celebrated by eating out at the Neah-Kah-Nie Bistro in Manzanita. The food was excellent and was a perfect way to cap off a nice anniversary.
My knee is still bothering me, I went to the Urgent Care on Friday afternoon and had a bunch of fluid drained from my knee. They took X-Rays and recommended that I see an orthopedist. I made an appointment for Tuesday and found out that I don't have anything torn. It was just a hard fall on the knee cap which caused my arthritis to go berserk. I am to put heat on it in the morning and ice at night, take two Ibuprofen twice a day, also wear a knee brace (which drives me crazy) and keep it elevated. I have to go back in two weeks and if the swelling has not gone down, it will be drained again and I get a steroid shot. I hate to be slowed down like this!!
We had surprise visitors knock on our door this week. Dan and Mary McLean were in the neighborhood and stopped by to see us. Dan and Mary go back a long way in our lives. In fact, Dan and Dave are like brothers and they try to keep in touch as much as they can. Dan has been recovering - slowly - from a head injury and it was nice to see that they were able to make the trip to the coast.
We also had an old classmate of Dave's drop by on Wednesday. Dave wanted to get some things cleared out of his workshop and offered to give his milling machine to Ray if Ray could give it a home where it would get used. So, Ray and his wife came by to pick it up. The machine weighs around 300 pounds and we weren't really sure how we were going to get it loaded into his truck. But with the combination of the tractor and a wheelchair hoist mounted in the bed of Ray's truck, they got it done. It will be nice to see Dave's dad's old machine get used again. Ray and Dorotha stayed and visited for a while and we had a nice visit. They live in Gales Creek so it was a nice drive for them.
Dave has been busy all day long puttering out in the Boat Barn trying to get his workshop in order. His wrist is improving and his is able to work without his brace. It's still sore and he has to be careful but he is making progress. He's out there 8 hours each day. He is also very diligent about doing his exercises that have been given from his occupational therapist. He gets to work with play dough and twist a towel to develop strength in his wrist. I think he gets more exercise from working out in the shop, but every little bit helps, right?
We are having a load of gravel delivered today for our lower driveway. It is getting a little thin down there and with the Kubota tractor it will make the job a lot easier to smooth out. I got out earlier this week and sprayed all the grass and weeds that were thriving in the driveway and hopefully they will dry up and die soon.
