IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Saturday, I woke up to rain drops on the roof and I thought "Oh no!" We were having our Wyatt family reunion today and I didn't even think that it would be raining. It's the middle of July for goodness sake! We quickly discussed a Plan B, which meant having the whole reunion gathering at our place which would have been very crowded. But I sent a couple of prayers upstairs and by 11:30 the clouds had parted and it turned out to be a sunny beautiful day. In fact, I got a little sunburned.
My cousin Mike and his wife, Sheryle arrived from Henderson, Nevada on Friday afternoon and my daughter Lara and son-in-law Greg and granddaughters got here on Friday too. There were a lot of last minute things to do but we had plenty of help to get ready.
Arising early on Saturday morning, we all gathered at Upper Park here in Wheeler and started assembling the tent that we had borrowed from City Hall, along with tables and chairs. It took us about an hour to figure out the tent but we got it together along with the tables and chairs arranged. We expected about 30 people but as it turned out, 50 people came and we had four generations represented. Our branch of the Wyatt family started with 15 siblings and out of that generation, there was only one left, my Aunt Betty and she came along with her daughter. We had so much fun visiting and looking at old pictures of the family while the younger generation got acquainted by playing baseball and having a water balloon toss. We decided we had such a great time that we are going to do it again in a couple of years. My cousin Joan will host the next gathering in Hillsboro.
Sunday we said our good-byes to everyone and just spent the rest of the day relaxing. We were all so tired that Dave took me out to dinner at one of my favorite places - The Big Wave.
The rest of the week has been routine - water aerobics, gardening and watering. Although our weather has not been extremely warm, we do get winds that tend to dry things out. I am harvesting lettuce, peas and tomatoes so far and the green beans aren't far behind. Oh, we also FINALLY got one of our front windows replaced. This window went bad and we had ordered a new one which came about six months ago. Then getting someone to replace it was a challenge. But the guy who painted our house last spring also does other projects and he offered to replace it for us. So on Monday, he came with a helper and got the window in. It sure is nice to look out of a clear window for a change.
I am writing this a day early because we will be driving into Salem on Thursday. We needed to switch cars with Leslie and her family and it may be late before we get back to do the journal. They are driving to Pasadena and San Diego next week as Paige is playing in a couple soccer matches. They are also stopping by Harry Potter World, a visit that has been high on Ashtin's "to-do" list. She has wanted to go there for such a long time and finally her dream is coming true. Anyway, our car is a lot bigger and more comfortable and they had asked us a while back if they could use it.
Here is an update on Dave: He had the hardware (screws and pins) removed from his arm last week but now has a partial cast in place. He is a little disappointed that he isn't more agile and is still in a lot of pain. He goes back to the doctor on Tuesday and starts physical therapy on Friday the 29th.
Finally, a big birthday wish to my sister-in-law, Leanna who has a rather significant birthday today!
