IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
As I mentioned last week, Dave and I attended the Hillsboro Hops baseball game on Thursday night. We left after the fifth ending as we had a long drive back to the coast. The teams were tied 2-2 when we left but we listened on the car radio on the way home and it got a little more exciting with a home run by the Hops leading to them finally winning the game. It was a fun outing but we didn't care much for our seats at the game very much. We took advantage of an outing by the Pacific University Alumni Association for group seats. We've discovered that that those group seats leave a little to be desired. We were sitting deep down the right field line and had a couple foul balls come our way. In fact, a guy a couple of seats away in our row deflected one of the foul balls that I am sure it was coming my way! He tried to catch the ball bare-handed and all he got for his effort was a sore hand. He saved my life though! When I go next time I will be more prepared and bring a glove and helmet!!
We had a great Fourth of July celebration. The Dewey's arrived on Friday evening after they picked up two of our granddaughters from church camp. They were tired after driving all the way from Cottage Grove, so they turned in early. Then the Alexander's came on Saturday so the whole family was here to help celebrate which made it extra special. We took advantage of the fact that all five grandgirls were here at the same time for a rare group photo.
We started out on Saturday by celebrating my and Greg's birthday. We debated whether to go out and eat or stay home. We thought about what it would take to get fed at a restaurant with 11 of us showing up, so we did the smart thing and ordered pizzas delivered to the house. We were surprised when they showed up in less than a half hour. We also had birthday cake so I didn't have to cook at all - my kind of birthday celebration! I received some wonderful cards from the family and also got some great gifts - an outside welcome sign, some wind chimes and a new coin purse.
The Alexander's had to head for home Monday morning, but we enjoyed their company for two full days - a rarity with their schedule!. We didn't put the steamboat in the 4th of July parade in Manzanita this year as Dave still is impaired by his broken right wrist. It takes two hands and all his wits to run that thing, even on dry land, so for the first time ever, we took our chairs and sat on the curb and watched the parade instead. I have a friend that lives in Manzanita and she let us park in her driveway and sit with her and her husband. It wasn't as much fun as being in the parade but we enjoyed seeing the whole parade for a change and watched the girls gathering up the candy that was tossed their way. That was fun, but next year our goal is to have the boat back in the parade.
Afterwards, we had a barbecue and after dark the granddaughters lit up some sparklers and firecrackers that they had brought with them. We can also see the Manzanita fireworks from our deck so that was fun. I think it was after midnight before everyone settled down.
Lara and Greg and their girls stayed until Thursday and enjoyed the beach and wonderful weather that we had all week. Greg had brought his tree trimmer and trimmed back some of the brush along the road and did some pruning on some of the other trees in my yard. That was greatly appreciated and was glad he could do that for me. Jadyn made signs for me for our Wyatt Reunion that will be coming up in a couple of weeks, so that was also helpful. The house seems really quiet once more now that everyone has left. Lara drove my Jeep back into town so they can replace the battery. The battery has to be recharged if the car sits too long. They know someone at Les Schwab who will give them a great discount.
Dave found out that he will have the screws and pins removed from his wrist next Thursday and believe me he is counting the days!
