IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
I am writing the journal a couple of days early as I won't be around on Thursday night to prepare for it.
It's hard to believe that June is over and that the 4th of July holiday is upon us!
It has been a busy week (as usual) and I am getting a lot of things done. The lawn got fertilized, I got a couple of flower beds weeded and the windows washed, but it seems like the job list is never-ending.
We had my sister Jeanne and her husband Bob come down last Friday for the day while they are here in the States. They were here to officiate at the memorial service for Bob's sister who passed away the week before. I fixed a turkey breast for dinner and we had a nice visit with them. They were here for such a short time, as they were flying to Arizona on Saturday after the service to see their family there. Then Jeanne is heading back to England and Bob is staying on for a conference in San Diego. They still had jet lag and are really going to be messed up by the time they get back to England.
During the memorial service, we saw more people than we thought would know there. Our former neighbors, Marilyn Heard and Jack and Carla Carmichael as well as an old high school classmate of mine, Anita Perkins and her husband Bob. Anita used to work at the bank with Bob's sister. It is a small world, isn't it?
Monday Dave had an appointment with his orthopedic doctor to check on his broken wrist. It is healing nicely and the doctor decided that he will take the screws and pins out early - on July 14th instead of the end of the month. That will make it 6 weeks from the date of his accident and he's excited about that. Then Dave is scheduled for physical therapy for a month or so after that.
On Tuesday morning, I joined other members of the Garden Club and went on a tour of some local gardens. We started out at one garden that was on a hill with uneven stone stairs and I just didn't trust myself to go up and down them. So, a bunch of us "older" gals sat around and visited while the rest of them trouped on down the hill. They brought back pictures to show us. Our next stop was a well maintained garden where the owner grows mostly herbs that she makes into medicinal creams. I liked this garden the best but the mosquitoes were eating me alive. I bowed out of the third garden and left early because of being so uncomfortable. I haven't been very active in the garden club this year so everyone was glad to see me.
Thursday we will drive to Hillsboro. I have an appointment to get my teeth cleaned and then we have baseball tickets to see the Hillsboro Hops. The baseball game is an outing put on by the Alumni Association at Pacific University where Dave went to college. We have been meaning to take in a game and saw the opportunity. Dave hasn't been active in the alumni group so we don't expect to see anyone we know, but it will be fun to take in a live baseball game.
This weekend is the 4th of July and the whole family will be arriving to help celebrate my and my son-in-law's birthdays and take in the parade and fireworks in Manzanita. This will be the first year since we have lived at the coast that we haven't had the steamboat in the parade. Dave's broken arm just won't allow it this year, so for the first time we will actually watch the parade from the sidewalk. Then we will come back home and have a barbecue.
I hope everyone has a nice holiday.
