IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Flowers

The Master Gardener's Plant Sale on Saturday was a huge success. We had spent most of the day on Friday getting setting up for the sale. Then when Saturday came along, we had a long line waiting for the doors to open at 9:00 a.m. You can imagine that a sale such as this is very popular and as we opened the gates we were able to get everyone with no bloodshed! My job was to pull tags on the people's purchases and count the number of plants before they paid. It was pretty hectic for awhile, but it was a lot of fun. It was a long day - a long two days actually - but it was worthwhile. At the end of the day, the plant sale made over $11,000! The money will go for scholarships and other projects in the community. I was dog-tired by the time the day ended and was glad that Dave offered to take me out for dinner that evening.

I had such a nice Mother's Day and I hope you did too. We drove into Salem to Leslie and Jay's for a Mother's Day brunch and to celebrate three family birthdays . I received two flower planters for Mother's Day. A hanging basket of Geraniums from the Alexander's and a planter with mixed flowers from the Dewey's. Oh, so beautiful! I love gifts like that because this way, I can enjoy these special gifts all summer long.

Birthday kids

As I said, this is one of the busiest weeks in the year for our family. In addition to Mother's Day, we had three birthdays to celebrate and since we were all together, we partied with gifts and a birthday cake. I made up a planter of herbs and a Hori Hori garden knife to give Leslie, She liked mine when I was helping her a couple of weeks ago, so the gift was a no-brainer. After the "birthday fairy" told us he didn't have one, Jason got an American flag to hang outside their new house. 11-year-old Jaysa was the easiest to buy for, we gave her her favorite - money! Of course, she and I will have our annual Red Robin treat when we're in town this weekend. She also got her first cell phone for her birthday and she texted me with the happy news yesterday afternoon.

Porch Light

With all this sunny weather- the temperature has been in the 70's every day - I just have to be out in the yard and slowly I am getting the different flower beds cleaned and weeded. As I have said before, I have Dave put me on a clock and drag me in the house after a couple of hours in the yard. If I don't take a break then, I can hardly walk the next day! I sometimes go out and work for another hour or two in the afternoon, but that's it. Dave has been busy too and hung the new lights that we bought on one of our trips into Portland. The old ones once had a nice copper finish, but had long since deteriorated to nothing but permanent tarnish. The new fixtures didn't quite fit the place where the old ones had been, but with a little imagination (and of course the purchase of a new tool), he made some backer boards and recessed them to fit over the existing electrical box. I then painted them to match the house. We think they look really nice.

Jerry

Our feral cat Jerry, has evidently found a new place to perch. Most nights he climbs up on the greenhouse roof and makes his way to the top edge of the fence where he seems to feel safe and sound. He has even fallen asleep there and we hope he doesn't accidentally fall off! During these sunny days, he has taken to dozing up there in the daytime too - which is when we got this photo.

We will make our way back into town on Monday. Dave has an appointment for a CT scan and will see two of his oncologists. One is trying to deal with a nagging cough that won't go away and the other will be administering the third of his four hormone shots for treating his prostate cancer. While we're in there, I of course have a date with my granddaughter to finish celebrating her birthday at Red Robin.
