IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Last Saturday, we attended a memorial service for a friend of ours. Faith Dorothy was 89 years old and was also a friend of Dave's mom for many years. She wanted her ashes scattered into the Nehalem Bay and so after the service, two friends attached Faith's kayak with her ashes aboard and a bottle of vodka and paddled out to the middle of the bay and followed her wishes. It was a lovely ceremony and the choir that she had belonged to sang during the service.
After the ceremony, we headed into Portland to run errands and celebrate the birthday of one of our granddaughters. Paige turned 14 on Saturday and we had our annual date of shopping and Red Robin treat. We just gave her some money as she loves to go shopping. It is really funny because her older sister, Ashtin hates shopping and I have to practically drag her to the mall. After our shopping spree, Paige came home with new jeans and a t-shirt. Her other grandmother and aunt were at the house and we then ate birthday cake. What a day!
Dave and I spent Sunday night in West Linn with Lara's family as we were headed up to Hood River to talk to our attorney about our trust. He has been nagging us for years to get it updated. We needed a new Power of Attorney and we were way behind on getting the list of our assets updated. When we finished with that, we headed up to Dave's cousin Connie's place in White Salmon. She had made homemade tomato soup and served her special dilly beans and pickled beets. She is such a good cook and we had a great visit with her and Gene. She loaded me up with rhubarb so I made a crisp and froze the rest of it. We ended up driving back to West Linn and spending another night with the grandgirls before we headed home on Tuesday. And - no - we didn't get a single picture during that entire day!
I have been busy working in the city park every Wednesday. We had a window of sunshine on Wednesday so a few brave souls showed up to pull weeds. This crazy weather has been hard to schedule around. One minute there is sunshine and the next minute a cloud rolls in and we get wet. Oh well, it is April in Oregon. I did manage to plant my snow peas a couple of weeks ago and I see that they are beginning to appear. I have also planted my Fuchsia starts and they are doing nicely in their hanging pots. I feel it is a little early to start the rest of my garden because it has been chilly at night.
We spotted the herd of elk on the island this week. There must be about 40 in the herd and they will begin to separate the pregnant cows that will stay on the island until after birth of their calves. Dave took this photo, even though they're still too far away to see clearly. But since we haven't seen them very much this year, we took a picture anyway.
Dave had an MRI on his shoulder last week and we got the results on Tuesday. He has a partial tear of his rotator cuff, but not enough to have to have surgery, just physical therapy. That was a relief, as we are planning a road trip to California next week and we would have had to cancel. He's been feeling better since the diagnosis and so he probably won't even do the therapy unless things get worse again.
This weekend it is back into Portland. Dave has a blood draw scheduled on Friday and on Saturday, one of our granddaughters, Jaysa will be performing her gymnastic routine competition and we promised her that we would be there. Also, Paige has a soccer game that morning so our Saturday schedule is pretty full.
I'm not sure about the timing of next week's journal. We're planning to leave next Wednesday and that's going to have us pretty busy on "Friday, my favorite day"! One way or the other, I'll be here next week sometime, I'm just not sure when.
