IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Dave & AJ

It has been another on-the-go week for me. It started with company over the weekend. Our granddaughter Ashtin arrived here with her other grandmother Connie on Friday night as they were having a family "camp out" at the Nehalem Bay State Park. Instead of sleeping in a tent on the ground, they opted to sleep in beds at our place. The weather was kind of cool too which didn't help matters. Saturday night, we had two more of their family join them as another of Connie's granddaughters, Maddie and her boyfriend arrived. After breakfast on Sunday, they all left. While Ashtin was here and she wasn't with her cousins, she had some downtime with her Granddad and they played their traditional game of Monopoly on the computer. We enjoyed having them.

Monday, it was back on the road again. This was the last of the 5-1/2 weeks of radiation treatments for Dave. Making the trip each day has been a little boring at times, but the results were worth it. Dave had his PSA blood test and his PSA level is down to 0.84! He started the treatment at a whopping 44. 0-4 is normal. We are so pleased and the effort we had to go through was worth the trouble. He has a doctor's appointment with his other oncologist in November when he will receive another hormone shot. I too had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday for my annual bladder check. After several years with no cancer, I was hoping this would be the last time I would have to see the doctor for this check-up, but no way. He found another tumor in my bladder (it was small - 4cm) and he removed it in the office. Now it is back to having a check-up every three months again. I guess I can count my blessings, but it sure is an inconvenience.

Well, I finally made it into the 21st Century! I came in kicking and screaming but I turned in my antique cell phone for a smart phone this week. It isn't that I don't know how they work, it's just I didn't feel I needed one. It does have a lot of features that will come in handy, like a calendar, Facebook and e-mail. I probably won't know how I lived before.

The weather turned rainy and windy this week so I guess autumn has finally made its appearance. I can't complain as we had some really beautiful days and we do need the rain. I had to cancel the work party in the park this week again because of the weather. Luckily, we don't have a lot of weeding or pruning that can't wait.

It looks like a rainy weekend for Halloween. We took this picture of Paige clowning around with some Halloween "body parts" candy she had. She is such a character. Although she is 13, and her folks won't let her go trick or treating anymore, she still can have fun with it.

Kiss photo

While we were in Silverton with Leslie and family, they gave us a belated 50th anniversary present. We had taken a picture of us kissing in front of the Eiffel Tower and Leslie had it enlarged to hang on the wall. We don't have a lot of wall space here at home (too many windows), but we found the perfect spot on our bedroom wall. Lara had given me a sign which says, "Love you to the Moon and Back" which I put up under the picture. Thanks everyone for making our 50th such a special day and this picture brings back fond memories of our trip.

We are planning on going back into the valley on Sunday. We are meeting up with my daughter Leslie and her family to watch Paige play soccer. Well, Dave is going to be watching the game while I grab Ashtin and take her shopping and out to lunch at Red Robin for her belated birthday. Her 16th birthday was August 29th, so I am a little behind. She has had a lot going on in her life. She has been busy with school and then she injured her knee while playing soccer, which put her on the bench for the season. Anyway, after the shopping trip, we will meet up with her family and will exchange Dave for Ashtin. We are planning on spending the night in West Linn on Sunday as I have a lunch date on Monday in Hillsboro with a couple of girl friends that I used to work with.

With the start of this rain, I can hardly wait for my trip to Florida in about three weeks. The four of us are going to have such a great time. While Paige is busy training with her soccer team, Lara, Leslie and I are taking off for the Keys for a couple of days. We will be back in Boca Raton in time to watch Paige play her games though. We leave the week before Thanksgiving and will be flying back on Thursday. We might have turkey in the air!
