IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

collage

We had a great weekend with my daughter Lara and her family. They came down for a visit on Thursday (because the granddaughters had three days off) and stayed until Sunday. It was a bit frustrating because the weather has been beautiful for most of the summer, but the weekend they decided to visit, we were in the middle of the aftermath of Hurricane Oho from the Pacific Ocean. The weather was rainy at times but the winds were quite balmy. That didn't stop the girls from having a good time. They went to Manzanita to the beach anyway; they hiked to Short Sand Beach, went to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and did the amusement rides in Seaside. One of the photos shows them at the beach in Manzanita, forming the letters OHO, in honor of the storm! When it was too stormy to do anything, they were content to stay inside and play board games. Lara taught them the game of "Clue" and Jordyn, who at seven is the youngest, was so excited when she won!
My other two granddaughters are doing just great. Ashtin, who had injured her knee while playing soccer, is kicking butt at physical therapy and will be out on the field playing again real soon. Of course, Paige is being Paige and is winning most of her soccer games. This is a photo that was taken a couple of weeks ago when Ashtin went out on her homecoming date. I love it! Hurry and heal Ashtin - we want to see you back on the soccer field before the end of the season!

Have you ever had one of those days where nothing goes right? Well, last Tuesday was my day. It started out at my water aerobics class. Tuesday is a short day for us because the grade school kids come over and have their weekly swimming lesson. It is something the school system offers the kids and I think it is great. We are a community surrounded by water and the kids all have the opportunity to learn to swim. The only problem is that we have to cut our water aerobics class short on Tuesday to accommodate them. We get out of the pool 15 minutes early so we can shower and get dressed before they arrive at 9:00 a.m. Well, on this particular Tuesday, they decided to crash the pool early and caught most of our class either half dressed, in the shower or naked! It is not something that you would want your child to see is an old lady without any clothes on! Anyway, they came barging into the dressing room too early and their instructors were totally oblivious to the whole scene. It really made me mad so I wrote a complaint to the general manager of the recreation district and will boycott the pool until something gets resolved. It's not fair I say. That is not the only thing that went astray that Tuesday. I went up to the post office to get our mail and we didn't have any. That never happens, especially a day after a holiday. So while I was out and about, I drove up to the local pharmacy to pick up Dave's prescription that the doctor had called in two weeks ago. It wasn't ready! Grrrrr. I was sure glad Tuesday was finally over!

Tree

One other thing that happened was that while Lara and her family were here, Greg was going to take down a tree that has been growing between us and the river, blocking the view. Dave needed a new chain saw anyway, so he had Greg buy one and bring it to do the job. When the rain stopped on Sunday, he went out and began the project. The new saw fired up and then stopped after a few seconds. The chain was jammed. He had a spare chain so he installed that one and the same thing happened, this time breaking the housing on the brand new saw. We're pretty sure the store sent the wrong chain with the saw. Greg was not happy. So the saw went back to the dealer for repair or replacement and the tree is still there.

I have been driving Dave into Beaverton for his radiation treatments each day. This is week four (one and half weeks to go). He gets pretty fatigued and it is a good 170 miles (about four hours) round trip. Anyway, I have been driving him in and back and this week. A neighbor volunteered to help and drove him last Tuesday. That was really thoughtful of him to do that and I was glad for the day off. It does get pretty monotonous after awhile. Luckily the beautiful fall weather has been helping with the drive. All the trees have turned their colors up in the coast range.

We had the "bug" guy show up this week. He dressed in his hazard suit and away he sprayed. The next day I found all kinds of spiders and bugs on the deck "belly up", so I guess it worked. He will come back every six months to do his deed. We also had our contractor come by and check out the damage that the bugs had done to the window casings. They will have to all be replaced this winter.

Well, that's all the news my way.
