IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It's been such a nice week and I have spent most of my time outside in the yard enjoying the sunny weather. I know that some of you are sweltering from the heat and it is only going to get hotter by the weekend, while we have a nice 70 to 75 degrees with a slight breeze coming off the ocean. I don't mean to brag but I am glad I am here and not there!

Because of the extremely warm weather, we are having guests coming all next week. They want to escape the heat too. Lara and her family will be here for the whole week and Leslie and her family will join us later that week before taking in the Fourth of July Manzanita parade before leaving for home. My nephew, Brian and his wife Tonya have requested some time too, so I am looking forward to lots of company in the following week.

Last Friday we had the Wheeler city staff (all three of them) over for burgers and beer. We had been given some Moose burger from a friend of ours and the meat is so tender and lean and I wanted them to taste it. We had a great time enjoyed the Moose burger and the weather was perfect for the Bar-B-Que.

Burning Weeds

We have also been working in Leanna's yard while she is recuperating in the nursing home. I cleaned out her flower beds and spread mulch around the shrubs to help keep in some moisture during these hot days we have been having. We also got out the torch and have been busy burning the weeds and grass that has been growing up through the gravel in her driveway. I sprayed them about a week ago so they were half dead which made them easier to burn. The burning ban for Tillamook County goes into effect the 1st of July so I have been on a schedule to get the weeds in the driveway burned before the deadline. It has taken me all week and I still have one part left. After we get that all done, we will order a couple loads of gravel - that's our next project!

Park Crew

When I haven't been working in my yard and Leanna's yard, I have been putting some time in at the Waterfront Park on Wednesdays. The park is looking pretty good but there are always weeds to pull. We spend a couple of hours pruning and fertilizing the roses one time and this week it looked like the Morning Glory had engulfed the shrubs! There are a few of us that do this once a week and it is always fun to work with friends. I also had watering duty at the Post Office. We plant flowers in pots around the flag pole and so it was my turn to water this month.

”Paige”

Our granddaughter, Paige's soccer team has been in a Western Regional Tournament in Boise, Idaho this week representing the state of Oregon. They have played three games so far, winning two of them. They will go into the quarter-finals today but I don't know how they did as of this post. Paige is tied for top scorer in the tournament and we are so proud of her.

Kahrs

Thursday night we had dinner with some friends, Des and Donna Kahrs. They have been gone on an extended trip and just got back a month ago. Before we get back from our trip, they will be gone again to Sweden for a few weeks and so the only time that we will be able to get together is now or it will have to be Christmas. Isn't it crazy how our lives seem to always be on the go?

Speaking of going, our trip is just around the corner - July 14th is when we leave. We took some time on Monday and went into town and did some last minute shopping and stopped at the bank to order some foreign currency. I think we are just about ready and we are getting excited.

Dave thinks he's ready for the trip. He has slowly been getting his strength and stamina back and he actually spent a few hours a day working on the boat this week. He just needs to get it so he can steam it up enough to blow the whistle in the parade but he decided not to take a shortcut on that part of the project. Now it's taking longer to do, so we may be going right up to the wire getting it ready.

Leanna is finally going to come home the end of June. She went into the hospital May 22nd, and has been in either the hospital or the nursing home ever since. It has been a difficult month for her and she is anxious to get back home. Dave has a doctor's appointment that day and so we will pick her up and bring her home with us. We are hoping that she will be strong enough to be on her own while we're gone.
