IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Well, I made it through another week. It was another busy one too!! On top of that, this report will be a bit longer since I posted early last week.
Last Thursday we decided to drive into town - we wanted to go to my classmates monthly luncheon and then on into West Linn. Our granddaughter Jaysa is doing gymnastics and she wanted us to watch her while she had a private lesson. She got the private lesson as a birthday gift. She loves doing gymnastics and it was fun to watch her. I can remember when I used to be that limber and could touch my toes! Sorry these pictures are so blurry. We were using Dave's cell phone camera and she was quite a ways away.
The next day, we turned around and drove back to the coast as Dave had a city Budget Committee meeting that he had to attend. While we were home, we decided to attend the local Riverbend Players theater production of "The Foreigner" in Nehalem. They put on quite a show and we enjoyed it very much.
Sunday it was back to Portland as I had a couple of granddaughter's birthday celebrations to catch up on. First, I took my 10-year old granddaughter Jaysa out shopping and dining at Red Robin for her belated birthday. Her birthday was May 12th but since we are both kind of busy, this was the first opportunity to do that. We had a great time and she really scored with some new summer clothes. After taking Jaysa home, Dave and I headed for Silverton so that I could take my thirteen year old, Paige out for her birthday. We arrived at Leslie's and I grabbed Paige and off we went to Red Robin (again). The family had been to one of Ashtin's basketball games (Ashtin wasn't playing as she had a broken wrist). While they were doing that, a real estate agent was showing their home to some prospective buyers. They still have hopes of selling their place and moving into Salem before the summer is out. Leslie had given Chip (their chocolate lab) a bath and had the house spotless. When Paige and I returned from our little birthday celebration (April 9th was Paige's birthday) the rest of the family was eating pizza and watching the car races. We headed back to West Linn to spend the night.
Dave had a doctor's appointment on Monday to get beacon implants put on his prostate so that they will be able to zero in on the radiation treatments that will begin this fall. It was described to us as sort of like a GPS. We arrived at the doctor's office at the appointed time with our mind set for this procedure. That took some doing because Dave really doesn't want to do this. Anyway, after getting him to agree to the procedure and getting him to the doctor - we had to cancel the appointment! Apparently, I didn't get the memo telling me to take him off his Plavix a week before the procedure. Since that didn't happen, the doctor wasn't going to perform the implant with him still on blood thinners. After preparing himself for this painful procedure, Dave was a little upset over the whole situation. Actually, he was VERY upset and it seemed to take him a lot longer than usual to get his attitude adjusted. He really wanted to get this over and done with so we can concentrate on our trip. We get to do this all over again next Monday.
On our way home, we stopped in to visit with Leanna. She is still in the hospital and the doctor is waiting for her upper respiratory system to get better before the procedure can be performed. She has COPD which makes in hard for her to breathe. Finally, on Wednesday they inserted a stint so that the bile duct can (hopefully) process the stones that are lodged in her liver. She will be moved to a rehab place (Maryville in Beaverton) for a couple of weeks beginning today. Since she has been in the hospital for nearly two weeks, she is anxious to return home but the doctors feel she isn't strong enough to take care of herself just yet. Meanwhile we are holding down the fort, collecting her mail and taking care of her place.
A couple of things happened this week with the granddaughters so you can skip over this if you want while I brag about them. I mentioned that Ashtin had broken her wrist and she had the cast removed this week. She is one happy camper because that cast was slowing her down. She was telling me about getting a pencil stuck in her cast and also catching a frog during one of her classes and having to remove it from inside her cast. I'm told it was pretty disgusting taking that cast off Wednesday. She will play her first basketball game this Saturday since the break. Ashtin's sister, Paige had her braces removed this week so she was excited about that. She wore those braces for a lot of years and that perfect smile is worth all the trouble.
With all this going on, I still managed to squeeze in some yard time. Dave gives me one to two hours a day for yard work because I don't know when to quit. This week, we had a couple of rainy days and so I was stuck in the house during that time. But when the sun came out I was ready to be outside and I worked on the area by the upper driveway and got most of that done.
Then I dragged out the torch and put the flame to some of the weeds and grass growing in the driveway. I think the word has got out about Bell's Bed and Breakfast. We had a deer resting in the flower bed one afternoon. It was just resting there with not a care in the world, probably thinking of what flower delicacy it would eat in my yard!
We are expecting guests this weekend so I am preparing for that. Leslie and Jason are coming down Saturday night to pick up the Kubota so they can use it to spread barkdust around their yard. On Sunday, a couple of steamboat buddies and their wives will be dropping by to visit on their way from Southern Oregon back to the Seattle area. I always enjoy having company!
