IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It looks like the entry this week is going to be about granddaughters again. Sorry 'bout that. (Not really...).
We decided to drive into town on Sunday afternoon to watch two of our granddaughters perform in their singing and dance recitals. We have never seen so many routines and are guessing that there must have been 100 kids performing. Jadyn did her three performances, including a "Revolution Girl" and a Mary Poppins routine. Her younger sister, Jordyn was a bunny in her performance of "Alice in Wonderland". It was fun to watch them and to know how hard they had practiced their parts.
On our trip home we decided to take the Canby Ferry (the performance was in Canby) to cross the Willamette River. The river is narrow there so it was a quick trip. It didn't take long for us to get to Wilsonville and the I-5 freeway. Even waiting for the ferry, it's faster than going around to Oregon City. We had never been on this ferry before so it was a new adventure for us.
It was a good thing that the girls had their recitals on Sunday as we found out that on Monday, Jordyn broke her arm! They had gotten a tree swing and Jordyn was standing too close and got hit by the flying swing! Poor child, this is the same arm that she broke a couple of years ago when she was horsing around on the couch with her father. We hope that this doesn't put too much of a damper on her summer (softball and swimming are already out) and she heals real soon.
Speaking of granddaughters with broken arms, our oldest girl Ashtin (who broke her arm a couple of weeks ago) got an award from school for perfect attendance for two years in a row. She really likes school and gets good grades and is active in basketball and soccer. We think that makes all the difference in the world if they are involved. Then there is her sister Paige. She was at the middle school state track meet yesterday and she broke the school record in hurdles and also her relay team broke the school record. In case you couldn't see it, all those granddaughters make us very proud!
Let's see, the rest of my week without grandgirls - hmmm. I have been working out in the yard pulling weeds and clearing brush. Dave gives me an hour or maybe two and then makes me quit for the day. Good thing too, as I would probably be out there until I drop. It takes me a little longer to get the property cleared but that's okay.
I got my vegetable garden planted over the weekend. I put in a row of beets, carrots, beans, cucumbers and lettuce. I had planted my tomatoes and snow peas earlier and they are coming along. Dave cut some copper strips for me so I could line the barrel that I have my cucumbers in and it has really helped with the slug problem. I still find a few of them in the rest of my garden, so each morning I go on slug patrol with my handy spray bottle mixed with ammonia and water. But the barrel halves with the copper liner have been slug free! I also had to chase a couple of deer away; I just can't let my guard down!
Dave had to make a trip to OHSU on Wednesday for an MRI. The doctor wants to "tag" his prostate so that he will know where to apply the radiation. They needed the MRI to get an exact placement for that procedure. He will start those treatments when we get back from our trip in September. Wednesday was a long day and he didn't get back home until 6:00 that night.
Our trip plans are getting finalized and we pretty much know what we will be doing and where we will be going most of the trip. We will start filling in little side trips next. We're making reservations where we need to, but we want to have some free time and not be tied down or on the go constantly. We will be leaving in about 9 weeks and we are getting excited!
Lara and her family will be visiting us over the 3-day Memorial Day weekend. Boy, that holiday sure came early, I wasn't ready for that. It is usually a week later. Anyway, we are looking forward to seeing all of them down our way later today.
