IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Well, I made it through my second plant sale last Saturday. I spent some time on Friday helping with all the plants we received and doing a quality check to make sure the plants were presentable. Some of them didn't pass inspection and ended on the "free" table. We had a nice turn-out on Saturday and sold a lot of stuff. I don't know the final outcome of the sale yet. We are having a meeting on Monday to go over everything.

On Mother's Day, we drove into Silverton to have a barbeque with our family and celebrate the day plus the three birthdays this week. Dave forgot his phone so our daughter Lara took this picture of Leslie, Jason and Jaysa for their birthdays. I brought an Angel Food cake and we had whipping cream and fresh strawberries with it. I figured that they will all be "caked" out before the week is over. We had a great time and it was so nice to have everyone together. I received an African Violet in a cute vase from Leslie and a hanging basket of flowers from Lara. My girls are so thoughtful and I will enjoy both gifts for many months to come.

We had rain for most of the week so I was confined to the house. I had plenty of projects piling up to keep me busy inside though. I got my refrigerator and wall oven cleaned and I also defrosted the up-right freezer. The wall oven is the one installed when Dave's folks built the house and the self-cleaning lock broke so I have to clean it manually. The freezer isn't self cleaning either and I have to shut it off and leave the door open to defrost it. All the ice melts and I have towels lying on the floor collecting the water. What a mess and I now understand why I do this job less often than I should!

The Red Cross honored all the North Coast volunteers with a luncheon on Tuesday. We ate at the Sand Dune Pub and Grill and after the lunch they had a drawing. I won a gift certificate for the Sand Dune Pub! The Red Cross coordinator took a group picture and I was hoping she would send it to me. She didn't make it for this week, but stay tuned, this photo will be in next week's journal!!

Dave was busy in Portland with appointments with his oncologist and radiation doctors on Tuesday. Since I was committed that day, Lara sat in for me during the office visits. His hormone oncologist is a woman and she immediately gave him a shot and followed by a prescription to counter the effects of the shot! He then rode the tram up to OHSU to see the radiation oncologist and between them, they agreed that he would delay his radiation treatments until we get back from our trip this summer. He didn't want to be feeling the effects of the radiation while we're on vacation, and the doctor said waiting an extra two months won't make a difference. The treatments are five days a week for five weeks and we will have to drive into town for them. They gave us the option of getting the treatments at Hillsboro and right now we're thinking we'll do that and just drive back and forth each day. That's a lot of driving, but the alternative is that if we do them in Portland, we would stay at Lara's and be away from home for five days at a time. We haven't really made up our minds which way we'll go - we have until this fall to make that decision. We are optimistic about this combination of treatments; keep your fingers crossed that everything will turn out.

Hopefully, if the weather turns nice, I plan on getting my vegetable garden in. I am waiting a little longer this year as we will be gone most of the summer and if I time it right, everything will be ready to eat by the time we get back.
