IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It's hard to believe that March is almost over, where do the days go?

With the grandgirls

This was spring break for my granddaughters this week. My oldest daughter, Lara took her three girls to Los Angeles and San Diego for the week, so they have been enjoying warm weather and visiting friends. The two oldest granddaughters, Ashtin and Paige came by to stay at our place for a couple of days during their Spring break. We enjoyed having them so much, even if it was a short stay. Ashtin is 15 and Paige will be a teenager in a couple of weeks. Those two girls are the busiest with all of the sports that they are involved in.

Mickey

First of all, let me back up a bit. Last weekend, Paige gave us a little scare. She was playing in a soccer tournament over the weekend and we got a call late Saturday night that the doctor thought she had "broken her ankle" during one of her games. We were sent a picture of her in the emergency room with a splint on her foot and we were concerned. We thought, "Oh no!" The same thing had happened to her mother when Leslie was about that same age where she had cracked her ankle playing soccer. Leslie ended up with arthroscopic surgery and the doctor was concerned about damage to the growth plate in her ankle. Luckily, she came out of the surgery just fine and ended up continuing to play soccer. Anyway, it turned out that Paige did not have a break nor had she suffered any damage to the growth plate - she just bruised the bone in her foot. She went from the hospital to the soccer field and ended up not only playing but also scoring in the game the next day! This tournament was important to Paige as it was for the Olympic Development Program where they were going to pick the best 36 girls in the state. As it turned out she made the team for the state and now they will have another tryout to make an "A" or a "B" team. If she makes the "A" team, she will play in a lot of games while the ODP regional coaches will come and evaluate the girls who made the team.

Paige's sister, Ashtin also had some good news to share. She was selected for the Mid-Valley Monarchs all-star basketball team. This team will be traveling to difference states to play in local tournaments this spring and summer. And then she is really looking forward to later this summer when they get to go to Tennessee to play in a tournament. She had a very good season and has really developed as an all-around player. We're very proud of both of these talented young women - not just because of their athletics, but also because they are both getting terrific grades in school.

Sawdust

While the grandgirls were visiting, they did a few chores to help their grandparents. They unloaded the big trailer that was full and ready to go to the burn pile. That took them about five minutes to clear that thing out and get everything on the pile. It would have taken us a half hour! Then they helped G-Dad with some woodworking projects while I attended my Garden Club luncheon. They got some lumber ready to build some more Adirondack chairs for their place. He wanted them to be able to say they helped build them. When I came back, they had dragged out Dave's little electric scooter and were putting around the yard. The scooter only goes about 15 mph so they couldn't go very far very fast. They had fun riding it just the same. Then we took them to a "must see" afternoon matinee to view "Insurgents" at the movie theater in Seaside. Ashtin has read all the books in that series and this movie just came out. It was loaded with a lot of action but G-Dad and G-Ma didn't have a clue what was going on! Ashtin thinks we need to read the series so we can appreciate what we saw!

Scooter fun

Sadly, on Wednesday we had to take them back home to Silverton. We really enjoyed having them here but their parents really missed them and even their dog "Chip" was happy to see them when we got them back home. We decided to spend the night at their place and come home Thursday. Leslie invited me to join her at a Pampered Chef party Wednesday night and I had never been to one before. I have a few utensils from Pampered Chef for my kitchen that I had gotten over the years and their product really holds up (although it is a little expensive) and it lasts.

This weekend I have plans to attend an "Eat Your Yard" presentation at the Alder Creek Farm. They are having a speaker talking about how we can incorporate growing vegetables among our flower beds. Since I have such limited area for a garden and have to choose carefully what I plant because of space, I thought it would be fun to learn how to do this. I can imagine growing all sorts of things that like to take up a lot of room - pumpkins and squash come to mind - among my flowers and plants. Saturday night, Dave is the emcee for a community variety show in Nehalem and then on Sunday, we're going to go see a play in Tillamook. I'll let you know how all that went in next week's report.
