IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It looks like the month of February is about over. It was a nice warm February too which makes me hope that March will be a nice one too. All the spring flowers are already in bloom and so are the weeds.

Since last weekend was so nice, I got the pruners out and went to town on the Escalonia hedge that has been growing in the front. I didn't want to cut a lot off as I want it to get taller, so I just shaped it up a bit. Then later this week, I attacked the wild roses - or I should say they attacked me because by the time I finished pruning them back I was all scratched up and looked like I had been in a cat fight! Memo to myself, wear long sleeves and leather gloves when pruning roses!!

Dave dropped me off in Tillamook on Tuesday afternoon so I could attend a Master Gardener's class on weeds. The class was informative and now I can come home and identify all the weeds in my yard! Dave wanted to get the oil changed in his car and do some shopping, so we combined the trip. He had plenty of time as my class was three hours long. After he picked me up, we made a quick stop at the dry cleaners and Roby's Furniture to look for a refrigerator. My old frig in the basement that I use to keep "extra" things in finally heaved its last breath. I didn't want anything fancy and it didn't even need a freezer. We found one on a special sale and so ended up getting it. They will deliver my new frig on Saturday and even take away the old one.

AJ

I have to brag about a couple of my granddaughters. First of all, Ashtin who is 15 and goes to Silverton High School and plays on the basketball team there. She got "outstanding student/athlete of the day" for scoring 19 points (five being three pointers) in her game last week. This is the second time in a month that she has received this award. Way to go Ashtin!! She didn't stop there either. I just found out that she had a 14 point game on Wednesday. Not to be outdone, her sister Paige scored on a header past the goalie in her soccer game. I could never even make contact with the ball, much less score that way!

Jake

Another granddaughter Jadyn, who is almost 12, had a super performance with her dance team when they competed in the "Starbound Competition" over the weekend. Her team earned 5/5 stars on all their songs along with receiving the first and second place trophies. She is my "drama queen" and has been practicing very hard for this competition. She makes her grandparents very proud. They ALL make us proud!

We ended up with a bit of rain in the latter part of the week and so I was confined to the house most of the time. It is just too wet to pull weeds without pulling up a lot of soil along with them. The weatherman has predicted fairer skies for the upcoming weekend so I will probably be outside. I did some "'spring cleaning" around the house and caught up on some reading so that was the extent of my week.

Dave is still hobbling around the place. You may recall that he dropped an old refrigerator on his legs while he was moving it out of the shop two weeks ago. We were glad he didn't break anything and thought that he'd be fine once the bruises went away. Well, he's still so sore that he's having a tough time moving around. He did manage to repair the bathroom shower the other day, although we thought we were going to have to call for help to get him back on his feet when he finished! He keeps walking out into the shop - looking at the things he wants to get done, and then shuffles back into the house. I told him that it was going to take a long time to get better. I know, because I tripped over a boulder in the park a few months ago and I'm still sore from that.

Bob & Jeanne

I also wanted to share some good news we got this week. While we were visiting my sister Jeanne and her husband Bob in Phoenix last month, they got word that their visas had been canceled and they weren't sure they were even going to be able to return to England - much less stay there. The British government had canceled all "missionary" visas, evidently as part of some kind of immigration backlash. Long story short, they were allowed back in the UK, and have spent most of this month re-applying for visas. They got the good news that they were granted new visas a couple of days ago, and they are now good for another three years there. That is about as long as their original commitment, so that will work out just fine. We're happy for them and are now looking forward to seeing them when we visit Europe and the UK this summer. They were the reason we first decided to visit that part of the world to celebrate our anniversary and it just wouldn't have been the same if they weren't there.
