IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We started out last week moving to Silverton for a few days so we could be with our fifteen year old granddaughter, Ashtin and house sit while her parents and sister, Paige flew to Arizona so that Paige could be in the Soccer Regional Tournament being held there. Paige was one of 18 picked to represent Oregon in this Olympic Development Team tournament and we didn't want her parents to miss out being there. Besides, Leslie was attending as the manager so we just had to convince Jason to go. While they were in Phoenix, they had a chance to visit with cousins, aunts and uncles that live in the area. My sister, Jeanne and her husband Bob were visiting from England and two of their sons live in the area as well. Jason's uncle lives there too, so they had a nice visit with all of them. They all left on Wednesday morning and Dave and I moved in. Ashtin is not that hard to take care of, she just needed to be taxied around to school and various basketball practices.
Everything was going fine until I started to feel funny while we were in Silverton. I was buying groceries and was pushing the cart down one of the aisles when I had this great pressure in my chest, then I broke out in a cold sweat. Hummm, I thought, "What is going on?" as I had never experienced anything like this before. I immediately checked out of the store and headed for home. I felt so bad that I even had Dave bring in the groceries - and I NEVER ask for help. Anyway, after a few minutes and the pressure wasn't letting up, we decided I needed a trip to the ER to be safe. I really didn't want to go, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack. After checking in at the ER, the medics hooked me up for an EKG and ran a bunch of tests. The doctor decided I should spend the night and have a stress test in the morning. I spent a very uncomfortable night in the hospital, not that I was any pain but between the nurses coming in every hour to take my vitals and being wired up so they could monitor my heart, I didn't get much sleep. The next morning they took a chest x-ray and I ran on the treadmill for them. They couldn't find a thing wrong with me and so I got to come home after lunch. My heart is great and I may never know what the problem was. It could be as simple as some indigestion which might have caused the pressure. The nurse was telling me that I did the right thing as most women will ignore most symptoms until it is too late.
We had a lot of fun staying with Ashtin. She was a great help around the house and she is on the JV basketball team at Silverton. She had a game on Friday night which we attended. We don't get to go to too many of her games so this was great. She scored a couple of clutch three-pointers and their team ended up winning the game by 30 points. Saturday night, we went to see the movie "Wild". We didn't realize that it was so racy in parts and it was fun to watch Ashtin cover her eyes in those parts of the movie. I guess we should be more careful and adhere to the "parental guidance" warnings. All in all, I don't think we damaged her innocence - at least not too much.
Very late Sunday or early Monday morning, Leslie, Jason and Paige got home. Although Paige's team didn't come home with the championship, they won two games, tied one game and lost one game, Paige had a great time and she was challenged by playing against teams she had never played against before. They came home very tired and getting up the next morning to go to work and school was a challenge.
We drove back home Monday afternoon and went over to some friends to watch the National Football Championship between Oregon and Ohio State. The game sucked because Oregon lost, but the Ohio State team was a lot stronger and had been to the Championship games in the past. Oh well, maybe next year!
Tuesday, I spent the whole day at one of the Master Gardener's classes to renew my certification and while I was gone, our motor home was towed away. We had donated our old motor home to a homeless person. We never used it anymore and it was going to a worthy cause. After a couple of months of trying to find some place to put the motor home, they finally came and towed it away. Now we have more room in the boat barn and Dave can actually park his new car in there, unless he moves stuff around and loses the space to something else.
We leave for our first leg of our trip to Arizona today. We are driving, so we will take about three days to reach Phoenix. As I said, my sister Jeanne and her husband Bob are there from England and we want to see them while they are in the states. We are also going to stop on the way back to visit with some cousins of mine that live in Henderson, Nevada and others in Eureka, California. We plan on being gone until the 4th of February. I sure hope we don't run into any snow along the way. My plan is to keep updating this journal each Friday, but we never know if we'll be anyplace where we can do that each week, so if this hasn't been updated by next Friday morning, hang in there - I'll get to it as soon as I can!
