IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Well, our new year sure didn't start out very well. Both Dave and I came down with colds (Dave worse than me). We must have picked them up from our granddaughters along the way. Dave ended up going to the doctor and was put on Z-Pac which usually does it for him. Unfortunately, I am allergic to it, so I get to suffer the old fashioned way.
We left on Tuesday to spend the night in West Linn as we were scheduled to stay with our 15-year-old granddaughter Ashtin the rest of the week in Silverton while her folks flew to Phoenix to attend the Olympic Development Team Regional Soccer games that Paige was selected to play in. We drove to Silverton Wednesday morning in time to get last minute instructions and see them off to the airport.
That afternoon, I made a quick trip to the grocery store to get a few things while we were staying with Ashtin. While I was pushing the grocery cart around the store, I had this unfamiliar feeling come over me. My chest was all tight from pressure and I broke out in a cold sweat! I didn't know what was happening to me but the first thing I thought about was that I was having a heart attack! I managed to get in the car with my groceries and headed for home. I felt so bad by the time I got home I made Dave bring in the groceries from the car. If you know me, I have to do EVERYTHING for myself - so this was a first. I took a low-dose aspirin and waited to see if I would get better. It wasn't happening, so Dave drove me to the Emergency Room in Silverton and after an EKG, the doctor admitted me to the hospital. I must have had my blood pressure taken every 20 minutes and since the reading was high 180/95 they gave me some Nitro and morphine to help with the discomfort and to lower my blood pressure. They hooked me up to a monitor so I had wires over me and trying to sleep was impossible. The next morning they ran me down to radiation for chest x-rays and then they gave me a stress test where I had to walk on the treadmill. After all that, the doctor couldn't find any cardio damage and all my tests turned out good. While he was telling me what it wasn't, I was ready to ask him what it was, but he beat me to the punch and said that we would probably never know, because nothing showed up on any tests. It could have been something as simple as acid reflux or indigestion but they determined that whatever it was, it wasn't serious enough to keep me there. So they finally released me Thursday afternoon and I am feeling fine. I don't want to have to ever go through that again.
Dave has been taxi-ing Ashtin back and forth to school and basketball practices. She plays on the Junior Varsity team and we will go to her game tonight. Go Foxes!! She has been a joy to be with (at least what little time I've had with her) and between her and her dog Chip, they're enjoying their few days alone with G-ma & G-dad!
Leslie and Jason have been busy managing the soccer team in Phoenix. It's their job to make sure the girls have clean uniforms, get to the games, keep snacks and water handy during the game and give them money for meals. It is like herding cats keeping tabs on eighteen 12-13 year olds. Fortunately, some of their parents came along. The first game they played against Northern California and lost 3-1. Paige scored their only goal. The next two games should be easier as this Northern California team was really strong. They will be coming back late Sunday night and we will return home on Monday.
