IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!
It has been an interesting week as far as the weather goes. There has been a lot of wind and rain so we are now battening down the hatches to see what Mother Nature has to offer next.
In fact, as I write this journal on Thursday evening, the predicted strong winds have picked up and the island in Nehalem Bay in front of our house is completely covered. The lights have blinked off once so far, just enough to have to reset all the clocks. They're predicting hurricane force winds on the coast. I hope we are not in for a restless night!
We had a wonderful evening last Friday when we went out to dinner with our friends, Des and Donna Kahrs. We made reservations at one of our favorite places, the Terra Cotta in Manzanita to celebrate Donna's birthday. It was a slow night as we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. The food was wonderful and the dessert was to die for. It has been a long time since we had a chance to visit with Des and Donna, so we had a great time catching up. They have been gone quite a bit and we just never been able to match our schedules.
I was finally able to get my Christmas letter mailed out and the rest of the house decorated. There are still gifts to buy which isn't easy when you know you have to face the crowds at the mall. Dave and I will venture into Portland on Monday to see what we can get done.
I made it to a couple of holiday bazaars on Saturday. I came home with some homemade fudge and a jar of pickled beets! Most of the stuff I saw was cute but I didn't find anything that I could use for gifts or that I needed for myself. I did buy a knitted cell phone carrier that I can wear around my neck. I am accused of not having my cell phone on me at all times, especially when I am working outside, so I thought this might help. Dave had his last performance of Churchill on Saturday afternoon. They had about 35 in attendance and considering all that was going on that day, it was a good turnout.
Dave bought a new table saw from Home Depot a couple of weeks ago. It was one of those "some assembly required" things and after having help to remove it from the car (that sucker is heavy!) he had taken a couple of days to get it half assembled when he discovered that the saw was broken. And not just broken, it was totaled. It was something he couldn't see until he got the saw right side up and then it was obvious. He was just heartbroken over that. He ended up calling Home Depot and after talking with the manager of the store where he bought it, hopefully someone will be coming by to replace the saw. This has put a real damper on some of the wood projects that he wanted to have done for Christmas too.
We are at a standstill with the broken kitchen window. The window guy came by last week to measure everything again. I wanted to be there when he came which was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. I raced home from my water aerobics class so I could make sure he understood what I wanted. Well, he came at 8:30 and was gone before I got back. Then he emailed me an agreement to order the windows he had measured and the order was wrong! I have now put the window on hold until after the holidays are over and until I have given it more thought before I call back and give him a piece of my mind! This is the second time the order has been wrong. I could understand if it happened once.
I was doing some shopping at Fred Meyer the other day and was ready to check out with my order. The lady in front of me didn't have much so I thought that I would get done quickly. That was wrong! She was buying 25 boxes of Christmas lights for the city and she wanted it on a purchase order/invoice. Of course the clerk didn't have a clue how to ring that up! So after getting a 10-minute lesson on how to ring up the order, I am impatiently waiting with my stuff! That didn't help my blood pressure one bit.
Enough of my ranting, I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday season better than me so far.
