IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I was sure wishing it would rain but I didn't expect it to be such a downpour! I guess I should be careful what I wish for. My-oh-my, I have never seen or heard it rain so hard around here! It finally even discouraged the fishermen. For a while they were sticking around through the thunder and lightning, but even the diehards finally packed it in and the river and bay have been deserted.

There were some patches of blue sky and the sun finally came out on Thursday so I had a chance to get out in the yard and assess the damage. We had a lot of green leaves get blown down and my flowers are just about done for the year. The rain just about did them in. I raked up a few leaves in the yard, picked up some branches that were blown down and hosed off the deck so I can get ready for the next episode. That looks like it's coming this weekend.

We went into town on Monday after my water aerobics class. It was our oldest daughter, Lara's birthday and we wanted to help celebrate the occasion. We had a lot of errands to do also and we literally shopped until we dropped. We didn't realize spending money was so tiring. Our first stop was at Office Depot where we had a list of office supplies to pick up. Then it was Home Depot for some more items, lunch and then our final stop was at the Bed Bath and Beyond store, where we picked up some new sheets for our bed and a matching bed skirt. Dave also got a new pillow. I used to like shopping but it seems I only have time to get what is on the list and never time to just "look around" anymore. Besides, I always end up spending way too much money! Since we are not close to many stores we sometimes find it easier to shop on line and pay the delivery charge.

We had a nice time with Lara and her family for her birthday. The girls are involved with school now and there is also all their outside activities like, gymnastics, soccer, basketball and dance. Everyone is going in different directions. We ended up going out for dinner and having cake later at their place.

We spent the night in West Linn and got up the next morning for my doctor's appointment for a yearly checkup on my bladder. He gave me another clean bill of health and I don't have to see him again until this time next year.

After we left the doctor, we drove into downtown Portland for our appointment with the travel agent. We had wanted to take the train into town, but the doctor took too long and we ran out of time. Driving and parking in downtown are way down the list of our favorite things, but we headed out anyway. We couldn't believe our luck when I spotted an open parking meter just a block away from the travel agency! We were running late and finding that spot saved us - or so we thought. We got up to the address and found the building was completely covered with construction fencing. There was no way to get in! We called the agency and were told that they had moved! No one had shared that little piece of news with us. They were only about three blocks farther away from their old place, but we really didn't need the extra walk through the city. As it turned out, we were only five minutes late for our appointment and they didn't mind. I'm glad I suggested that we go through a travel agent to help us with our plans. Everything is still up in the air, but as a result of seeing her, we now think we'll be traveling in mid-July instead of the first part of August. Seems Europe closes shop and goes on holiday in August! She has some other ideas and we'll see about them later. We would like to get the important dates set by the end of this year.

An update on my leg and I am happy to report that it is finally on the mend. After being on antibiotics for three weeks, the swelling and redness are disappearing. I am able to sleep at night without hanging my leg outside of the covers. It was so tender that even the weight of the blankets kept me awake at night. I still have quite a large bruise but that will go away in time. I was even able to go back to my water aerobics class on Monday and it felt good to be back.

I forgot to mention last week that it had been a year ago since Dave was diagnosed with Lymphoma and started his chemo treatments. What a year it has been but thankfully he is doing great and has much of his strength back. A lot of his healing can be credited to all the support and prayers that he received from everyone. We are so grateful to have so many friends and loved ones.
