IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Cousins

It's been a busy week filled with friends and family. Last Saturday, our cousins on my dad's side of the family had a reunion in Hillsboro. First, we drove into Milwaukie and picked up my older sister, Judy (who doesn't drive) and then we drove back to Hillsboro, where we picked up my younger sister, Jeanne who was over here visiting from England. She was staying with a classmate and was here for a class reunion and to visit with us. Anyway, we finally made it to the family reunion with everyone in tow. There were about 15 of us, mostly from one family. We could have had a lot more. Considering that my dad had 14 brothers and sisters, I have a lot of cousins. We were pretty close to my dad's oldest sister's family and there were five cousins from that family there. Another one of my cousins was from Henderson, Nevada and he was there with his wife. We had a nice visit and it was fun reminiscing about our childhood and growing up together. We spent the night in West Linn and brought my sister Jeanne back down with us to spend the week.

Meanwhile, my cousin Mike and his wife Sheryle from Nevada came by our place as they were headed down the coast to Reedsport to visit with his sister before he headed for home. They have a nice motorhome that they travel in and so all we had to do was provide a place for them to park and a little water and electricity and they were all set for the night. I fixed dinner and breakfast while they were here, so we did have a house full. It was fun having them here.

Jeanne and I had a nice visit while she was here. She really wanted to be able to relax for a while, so we didn't do a lot. We did go shopping at the antique mall and I took her down to Tillamook one day for "tea" at a cute place called La-Tea-Da. That was a lot of fun and we had a great time drinking tea and eating scones. Still, taking someone who lives in England out for tea may have been a bit much! We did take advantage of her knowledge of England to add things to our "Bucket List" in case we ever get over to her end of the world.

On Wednesday evening, we went out for fish and chips and clam chowder at Mo's before we saw a play at the Coaster Theater in Cannon Beach. The food was great and we had a wonderful view of the ocean but the play was disappointing. We have gone to a lot of performances at the Coaster Theater and this is the first one that didn't meet our expectations. And wouldn't you know it; this is the first one where we had brought someone with us after talking about how much we enjoyed that theater.

We left early on Thursday morning as Dave had an appointment with his oncologist at OHSU in Portland. It was a good report as his blood results were fine and he doesn't have to go back for another check-up until November. We brought Jeanne back into town with us as she was flying out on Friday for Phoenix - her last stop before she heads back to England. She will be down there for a week to visit with her two sons and their families. We had such a nice visit and we really enjoyed having her stay with us. Now that all our company has left, it is back to our usual routine.

We had a couple of rainy days this week which really helped my garden and I got a break from watering. It sounded good to hear the sound of raindrops falling and the freshness in the air that the rain brings. This is the first hard rain we have had since July so things have been pretty dry around here. My garden is growing and I am reaping lots of vegetables. Now if I can only keep the deer away! A doe and her two fawns came by the other day and were cleaning out the bird feeders before I could chase them away.

Sorry for posting this a day later than usual. We got home late last night from our trip to Portland and were too tired to even think straight - and certainly not well enough to write anything.
