IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

View

It has been another sunny and beautiful week down here at the coast. We feel so lucky to be able to look out our front deck and see such a wonderful and peaceful setting of the Nehalem River and Bay and Neahkahnie Mountain in the background. Tourists are always stopping in front of our place to take pictures.

Nick Collage

We started out last weekend by driving into Vancouver to attend Uncle Nick's memorial service. Considering that he was 92, it surprised me that there were about 300 people who attended. We got to see lots of relatives we hadn't seen for awhile. Isn't it a shame that it takes a funeral to be able to see everyone! The service was lovely and it brought back many happy memories of Nick. He was such a character. It was a very moving service that wound up with a recording of him singing "What a Wonderful World". He had a beautiful singing voice - in fact he sang at our wedding 49 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II and so there was an honor guard there to present a flag to the family. It turned out to be a rather warm day so after the service, we headed back to the coast. It was in the high 80's in town and by the time we got back home it was a more comfortable 70 degrees.
Dave and I decided to use the nice gift certificate for the Rising Star Cafe that we had received for our wedding anniversary last year and went out to eat that evening. What a wonderful meal it was. I had the Wild Salmon fixed with vegetables while Dave had the halibut & shrimp dinner. We topped our meal off with a lime tart for dessert.

Jan's plants

We made a quick run to 7 Dee's Nursery in Seaside on Sunday to pick up the Lithadora that I had ordered to plant in the front on the retaining wall. Meanwhile, I have them setting under the deck until the weather gets a little cooler before I plant them.

Monday it was back to my water aerobics. After eating way too much over the weekend, I needed to work off some of those calories. This is such a fun class and I have met so many friends there that I really enjoy the workout. Besides, it's a great way to get caught up on all the gossip in town!

I had two appointments in Hillsboro on Tuesday. The first was to see my dentist. I had broken off a crown on the back molar and needed to get that fixed. He put in a temporary crown and I will go back in two weeks for the finishing touches. I had some time to spare before my next appointment with the doctor so I raced around doing a bunch of errands. I stopped off at Trader Joe's to pick up a few of my favorite things and then next it was Freddies and Costco before my appointment. When I got done with the doctor, I headed back home.

This week, I had a friend help me prune a bunch of shrubs in the yard and I pruned back my wild roses at the same time. If I don't keep on top of the roses, they will take over. They were already making a try and I cut off some runners that were 5 feet long! My arms got all scratched up from that so I looked like I had been in a cat fight. On Wednesday afternoon, after I managed to get our trailer all loaded up with the cuttings, Dave and I took the trailer down to Kahrs' burn pile.

Drain

I also managed to get the French drain cleaned out along the house this week. I had to dig out all the river rock, shovel dirt out and then replace the rock. The extra dirt that I had I placed around my new Azalea plants. That job took up the whole afternoon.

This weekend, my sister Jeanne - who lives in England - is coming in to visit us. We have a cousin's reunion planned on Saturday afternoon and then she has a high school class reunion that evening. On Sunday we will bring her down to the coast for the week before she leaves to visit her family in Phoenix. It will be fun seeing her again.
