IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Gosh, is it Friday already? This week has been so busy and I have been running from one project to another all week.
On Monday, after my water aerobics class, I came back home and decided since the sun was shining, I would pull a few weeds in the yard. Had a couple of hours before I had to be over at Alder Creek Farm by 12:30 to help prepare plants for the Nehalem Bay Garden Club Sale. We keep most of the plants at the farm all year and then we go through and divide and clean them up for our sale. I also had to attend the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay annual meeting. They wanted some representation from Wheeler and since I am a neighborhood captain I felt obligated to go. It was a nice meeting and some of our state dignitaries were present. Senator Betsy Johnson and Representative Deborah Boone gave speeches on how well organized our little communities are in case of a disaster.
Also, on Monday things were happening on the home front. The workers were back to finish our retaining wall. They finished most of it up in a couple of days, although they still have to come back and install river rock at the base. It really looks great and now the fun part comes on what to plant there. I am leaning towards Lithadora which is a small blue flower that will drape over the wall. It is low maintenance and spreads like a ground cover. The flowers last through late spring and summer.
Wednesday after my water aerobics class, I spent the morning working in Waterfront Park for awhile before I headed down to Tillamook to help with their plant sale which is this weekend. We moved tables in place and got ready for people to bring in their plants on Thursday and Friday. I was on "tomato duty" and let me tell you, I have never seen so many tomatoes. We ended up with over 100 plants of various kinds. So we had to wash the pots, stake the plants and arrange them in their group names. The sale is going on this Saturday and I won't be able to be there because we are leaving for the Seattle Opening Day Boat parade on Friday evening.
I was in a car accident this week also. It was just a fender-bender, but that doesn't make me feel any better about it. I was backing out of the parking lot at Waterfront Park after the work party and ran into this car that was illegally parked and I wasn't watching. The lady was just coming out of the public restroom and so no one was in the car. I don't know why she decided to just stop and park just anywhere as there are markings showing where to park. Anyway, it was my fault for hitting her so that didn't make my day. As it turned out, she lives in Myrtle Point and was just passing through. I have a puncture in my back bumper which I will have to get repaired. It will be more of an inconvenience than anything plus the $500 deductible that I will have to come up with.
I did have my eyes checked last Friday and it was determined that I need new glasses. Maybe that is part of the problem with me driving into other people's cars!. Anyway I am anxiously waiting for them to arrive. They told me that they'd be ready in a week, but we're on the road for Seattle that Friday and Saturday and I may not make connections with them on our way through.
We have had some really HOT weather this week. The temps have been unusually high for the coast. We got into the low 80's Wednesday and Thursday. The sunsets have been stunning and I am enjoying it while it lasts. The weather will take a turn for more rain and drizzle by this weekend.
We are looking forward to going to Seattle this weekend with our friends, Kim and Harv. Because of his cancer, Dave was unable to get our boat running this year and they have invited us to ride with them on their steamer during the Seattle Yacht Club annual Opening Day Boat Parade. Last year we had beautiful weather, but this year it looks like we may miss the nice stuff by a day or so. I will be packing rain gear but am hoping that I don't have to use it.
