IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
What a week! With this crazy weather, I was cooped up in the apartment at West Linn for three days because of the snow. But, first let me backup a few days. Last Thursday, Dave had a 2:30 p.m. doctor's appointment up at OHSU followed by admission to the hospital for his last and final Chemo treatment. We left the coast around 10:00 a.m. as we wanted to beat a snow storm that was predicted. We headed up Highway 53 where snow had already fallen and it was pretty slick. I was driving so I put the Suburban in 4-wheel drive and followed a log truck most of the way. I took it slow and made it out to Highway 26 where the road was a little better. We stopped in North Plains at the Subway for a sandwich, figuring that we had plenty of time. But as it turned out, everybody decided to head home from their work at noon because of the predicted snow and Hwy. 26 soon became a parking lot. Not because of the snow but because of all of the cars. It was bumper to bumper all the way into Portland and we finally turned off at the Canyon Road exit hoping to make up some time by going through downtown by way of Jefferson and Broadway up to OHSU. What a mistake! After weaving in and out of stalled cars stuck in the snow, we finally made it up to OHSU. From the time we left the coast until we arrived two hours late for our doctor's appointment, it took us about 5-1/2 hours! Dave was admitted for treatment and I headed over to West Linn. I didn't have any problems because by 5:30 p.m. everyone was home and I had the road to myself. Boy was I exhausted by the time I got to Lara's. Luckily she had some hot Chicken and Dumplings waiting for me for dinner.
The next couple of days I pretty much stayed at West Linn and didn't try to venture out. The granddaughters didn't have school because of the snow so they spent most of their day playing in it. I did want to get over to Verizon to get Dave's cell phone figured out. He was using his phone on the way into town and had plugged it in to preserve some battery life. When he went to turn it back on the cell wanted a password before he could use it. He had never assigned a password to his phone and it was very frustrating. So he was at the hospital without his phone for three days until I could go to Verizon and have it looked at. For Dave, that is like severing an arm to be without his phone for that length of time. After the weather calmed down I finally made it to Verizon. They swore to me that Dave had to have put in a password and the only way for them to get on his phone was to reprogram it and he lost a lot of apps and data in the process. He was glad to get his phone back anyway.
While I was in town, I took my youngest granddaughter, Jordyn for her traditional Red Robin birthday celebration. This is something I do for each of the grandgirls on their birthday. I wasn't able to do this on Jordyn's birthday so we went the first chance we could. She always looks forward to this time and loves going to Red Robin with Grandma and always orders the same thing - mac and cheese!
Dave was able to get out of the hospital on Tuesday and we stayed in town overnight because there was a big storm brewing at the coast. So after running a couple of errands, he had a gift certificate he had gotten for Christmas at Harbor Freight and he wanted to look around. He ended up getting an electric planer. We stopped for gas at Freddies and while we were there he told me he wanted to go in the store for a Valentine for me. I thought he wanted to get me a card but we ended up at the jewelry department where a friend of ours works! It seems like everyone in the world knew about this little surprise except me! So I got to pick out whatever I wanted and I ended up with a beautiful necklace from my sweetie for Valentine's Day! It was quite a surprise.
We didn't have any problem getting back home, the roads were clear and most of the snow had melted. The two feral cats, Tom and Jerry were really glad to see me. I know they were well taken care of by my sister-in-law, Leanna while I was gone, but it was nice that they missed me. We had a lot of snow down here and there were a couple of days that Leanna couldn't get out of her driveway because of it. Plus on Wednesday night, there was a big wind storm and power was out for a short while - long enough for us to have to reset all the clocks when we got home.
I have been on the go since arriving home. We had to run into Tillamook on Thursday as Dave had to get blood work done and see the doctor. Although he is done with his Chemo treatments, he still will have his blood monitored. He has an appointment on the 28th of February for his PET/CT scan and spinal biopsy and then on the 5th of March we will know the results. Keep your fingers crossed that this will soon be behind us and Dave's health will be back to normal. It has been a long 6 months.
It's good to be back home again. Happy Valentine's Day!!
