IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

This has been a crazy week.

It started out last Saturday when I took Stanley over to the Muttzanita Dog Festival in Manzanita. There were dogs everywhere and Stanley enjoyed the commingling with all the other dogs. Some of the dogs were "dressed" up in costumes like Stanley. They had a big parade, talent show and a chuck toss. We only stayed for the parade as Stanley was tired and hasn't been feeling his old self. Of course, I didn't get any pictures of Stanley with his "King of the Beach" muscle shirt and crab hat on.

Mary Dan” WIDTH=

Sunday we got a pleasant surprise. Some very dear friends stopped by. It is a long story but Dan and Mary were married about the same time we were. Dan is like a brother to Dave and we always had some good times together. They had two kids (a boy and a girl) and we became god parents to them as they became god parents to our two girls. To make a long story short, Dan and Mary got divorced and we mainly kept in touch with Dan. Dan remarried, and then lost his wife to cancer a couple of years ago and Mary also recently lost her mate to cancer. So out of pure loneliness, Dan and Mary are now best of friends. "Just buddies" they say, but we'll take them any way we can get them. It seemed like old times visiting with them all Sunday afternoon.

Walkway” WIDTH=

Our paver walkway is slowly getting done. We got the plastic foundations around the edges to support them and filled up the perimeter space with buckets and buckets of dirt. We got the rocks back in place around the berm where the fountain is. There are a few pavers on the edges that "sag" a little, so Dave has been refilling the sand under them and re-leveling them. As we move forward, we will finish putting the deck boards on the porch back in place and then gravel. We have been working around the weather and when we have enough energy too. We had a few days where it was too wet from the rain to work.

I love this time of year. It is starting to get darker out sooner and cooler in the evenings. The other morning as I was putting the bird feeders out, I heard the sound of a flock of geese "practicing" for their flight south. It is also time for hardy soups and comfort food.

The two feral cats (also known as "killer kats") have learned to hunt now and so they have been busy stocking every bird and critter around. I have found a lot of shrews, a few feathers and even a little chipmunk which had become victims of their nasty deeds. They had a squirrel cornered the other day but he managed to escape behind a boarded window in the garage. The cats are great for pest control but I do enjoy some of the birds and wildlife around here. We continue to have that discussion, though I think my words are falling on deaf ears.

The fishermen have been so thick out in the bay in front of our place. I swear you could walk across the bay with so many boats. Even though we don't sit here watching them all the time, we have seen a few caught so the salmon must be plentiful.

Monkey” WIDTH=

Anyone lose a stuffed monkey and a blankie? Dave found these two items lying on the sidewalk in front of our place the other day. I am sure there is some little kid mourning the loss of these treasures. I remember when one of my girls had a furry toy kitten that she favored and one day I was driving down the highway and she was sitting in the back seat with the window open. The next thing I heard was a scream something about a kitty. It had flown out the window and I had to stop the car and hike back against traffic to go fetch it! She loved that kitty so much and had petted it so much that most of the fur had worn away. Anyway, I was thinking about that and decided to post a "found" and picture on our local internet listing so that maybe by chance the owner might claim it. I even put a picture of it up in the Post Office. So far there has been no response. It is a cute monkey too.

Jason Leslie” WIDTH=

Speaking of the owner of that kitty, our daughter Leslie got to fly back to be with her husband Jason in Tennessee last week. It was their 16th wedding anniversary and he has been back in Nashville attending Commander School for the past 8 weeks. Anyway, she flew back and they had a great time visiting lots of places, including the Grande Old Opry and the Jack Daniel Distillery together. She left on Thursday and got back home Sunday night. Anyway, on her flight back she was scheduled for a stopover in Albuquerque NM and then on to Portland. But she ended up flying to Los Angeles, then back to Albuquerque and then to Portland. How crazy is that? No wonder the airlines are having problems.
