IT'S FRIDAY (THE 13TH) MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Not that I am superstitious or anything, but I can't think that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day. This year, it falls on my daughter and son-in-law's anniversary, so that is pretty lucky. Happy anniversary you two. Leslie flew to Tennessee yesterday to be with Jason for their anniversary. Jason is attending Commander School in Nashville for 10 weeks and so has been gone all summer. It's been tough on everyone, but they all know that it is important for his career to have this in his resume, so they've all been "toughing it out". He'll be home for good at the end of the month and I'm sure everyone is going to be glad about that! Speaking of anniversaries, Dave and I celebrated our 48th anniversary on Wednesday and we made dinner reservations at one of our favorite restaurants, the Terra Cotta Cafe in Manzanita. I had halibut and Dave had fresh salmon and both were delicious. We received many good wishes from friends and family for our special day. Between Dave's birthday last week and our anniversary this week, we have our place decorated with greeting cards.

To get back to the beginning of the weekend, we took off for Ten-Mile Lakes on Thursday. It is located four hours south of here on Highway 101 near Florence. We towed the steamboat down and joined five others for a mini-meet. We had a great time and enjoyed visiting and dining with all our friends. The only problems we encountered at the meet were that after Dave launched our boat he had almost made it to the dock when the boat stopped dead in the water! As it turned out, there is a lot of grass in the lake and Dave got tangled up in the stuff. The grass was wrapped around the propeller so tight that it made a rope out of itself and the boat wouldn't budge. After he got towed to the dock, he had to crawl under the boat to unwrap all the grass to free the propeller. What a mess! Then after all that the boat wasn't running right so again, we were moored at the dock during the whole meet. I think it was a plugged water filter this time. It will be just another project for Dave to work on this winter. In fact, after this incident he made a "to-do" list that he swears will be done before spring so we will never have this kind of problem again! You're my witnesses! You read it here first! The weather was perfect and we did get to ride on a few other boats, one in particular, "Uno" which is over 100 years old. So that made it worthwhile. We also got to try out the new curtains for the boat. They sure dress it up and are a lot better than the old curtains which were faded and ripped. We stayed until Monday morning stopping for lunch on the way and then had a beautiful drive back home along the coast. Dave has decided not to spend any more time working on the boat this month, so we parked it in the boat barn for the winter.

I picked up Stanley at the kennel where he was boarded while we were gone. He was glad to see me and couldn't wait to get in the car to come home. He wasn't feeling too good and so I took him to the Vet on Tuesday afternoon. He has a fatty tumor on his stomach and it was all festered and while we were at the Vet it broke open and was a mess. The Vet took his temperature and it was on the warm side - 104 degrees, so he gave him an antibiotic and some meds to build up his resistance. He hasn't been eating very well but is drinking a lot of water. He felt better yesterday but hasn't got back his appetite completely. I am hoping he will be better by this weekend as I want to enter him in the Muttzanita parade (a doggie parade in Manzanita) on Saturday. He has a costume and everything. It is a muscle shirt that says "King of the Beach" on it and a crab hat made of Styrofoam to complete his ensemble. I'll try to get a picture.

We still have lots of fisherman with boats on the bay and it gets a little crowded. Dave counted fifty boats the other day, most of them right in front of our place. The parking lot up at Waterfront Park has been full every day. I went up there on Wednesday morning for our weekly work party and I was lucky to find a spot. Even so, some fisherman later pulled his boat out of the water and blocked me in. Hopefully, fishing season will be over the end of the month and maybe we can get back to normal around here.
