IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
I don't know what you call it except the "crud" but that is what Dave and I have been fighting all week and it is kicking our butts!! Dave has spent most of the last two weeks in bed when he hasn't forced himself to run into Portland to work Blazer broadcasts. I felt like I had a sore throat and ear ache coming on and so I skipped the class that I was planning on attending last Saturday. Next year, I am going to request a "crud" shot to go along with my flu shot. We both are feeling much better now but we still are coughing and sneezing a lot and we still don't have a lot of energy. So on and on we go and hopefully we will be healthy enough to go on our trip on May 6th.
I did make myself go with Dave into Portland to see our granddaughter Jadyn perform with her dance group at the Blazer game on Sunday night. Dave got tickets for everyone so I got to actually sit with the crowd and cheer the team on. It's been a long time since I've been able to do that! The granddaughters had a blast too, even if the Blazers lost the game. We brought Stanley along and he stayed in the car while we attended the game. Jadyn did great in her performance and made us very proud.
After the game, Dave and I headed back to the coast as we had a couple of meetings this week that we had to attend. One was a special Parks Committee meeting to discuss some new land (Bott's Marsh) that the city wants to acquire through a grant. The plan is to make it into a natural area as well as a city park and interpretive center. I was busy collecting signatures from citizens who are in support of this project. Since Dave is on the City Council he attended a separate meeting to discuss the new proposal as well.
Tuesday, I had to run into Tillamook to attend the Master Gardeners board meeting and also to get my blood drawn for my thyroid medication. That's always fun getting my blood drawn as they always have to try a couple of times before they get it right. But this time, the technician was right on the money and I was out of there in a flash. While in town, I stopped at Freddy's and picked up my fuchsia starts and got them planted in pots and hanging in the greenhouse. I also have been transplanting the marigolds that I started from seed into bigger pots. I am trying not to buy too many plants as we are leaving for the whole month of May and I will have to find someone to water them while we are away. Luckily, I have a friend who says that she would do that for me. If I wait until I get back from our trip, there won't be any plants left to buy or the selection will be very limited. I guess May isn't a good time for me to be on vacation as I am going to miss two garden sales this year.
We had a couple of bad storms roll in during the week with high winds and heavy rains. I had to cancel our usual Wednesday work party at the park this week because it was so stormy. The sun did manage to come out later that afternoon and again on Thursday, so I helped get ready for the Garden Club plant sale which is in May. We transplanted primroses, artichokes, daisies, and sedum that were donated from one of the member's yard. Next week, we will get ready to plant annuals in baskets and pots to sale. It's a busy time of year. While the sun was still out, I helped Dave unload the trailer to the burn pile. It was full of branches from the trees that we had pruned a couple of weeks ago.
I must mention too that my granddaughter Paige turned eleven on April 9th. She is such a great joy and I am so proud of her. I had gotten her a top and sent her some money for her birthday and I still owe her a birthday lunch. All my granddaughters are just growing up too fast.
Our old desktop computer finally bit the dust this week and so Dave is going to buy a new one when he is in town today. We have been limping along with the old one and have had to keep rebooting the darn thing just to make it work for a few minutes before it crashes again. I guess they only last so long. I wish it was a little longer but that is not the case. I'm sure they work it that way so that we have to keep buying new stuff!
