IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It was another rainy week gone by. There were a few moments between rain breaks that I managed to bundle up and take Stanley for his daily walk to the post office and back but other than that I stayed indoors. It was not only raining but it was darned cold too.
I lost my chair! Whenever I have been sitting in my chair I have been getting nudged by a cold nose and I finally figured out why. Stanley wanted my chair! I finally figured it out whenever I would get up and he would immediately climb in. What a crazy dog!! I ended up moving his bed from the utility room into the living room and that seemed to satisfy him. He still manages to find his way to my chair whenever I am not around but doesn't bug me as much. It is funny because I can yell at him to get down and he pretends to be asleep but if Dave even looks at him while he is in the chair, Stanley will reluctantly slither to the floor (not even looking at Dave) and go to his bed. I guess he knows who is boss around here. We are having fun with Stanley and this week while on a walk, he got acquainted with the other resident Basset Hound in town - Orson. They had a nice chat and Orson filled Stan in on the news around town. Orson is 13 years old so Stanley is a pup compared to him. It must be the water around here that makes dogs live longer.
Can you believe it! After about two weeks my two feral cats showed up. I had mentioned to Dave about their disappearance and asked him to see if they had gotten locked in the boat barn by chance. He checked it out but couldn't find any cats. That was a couple of weeks ago. I went to get some yard tools out of the barn last Saturday to do a little pruning around here and heard a scuffling noise. I decided to leave the barn door open and lo and behold - a couple of cats appeared! They must have been locked in the boat barn for quite some time as they were a couple of hungry toms and very thirsty. I don't know what they have been living on for the past couple of weeks, maybe we have fewer mice in the barn now. Anyway, the boys are back and haven't missed a meal since.
It does feel like spring is just around the corner. I sure hope so. I mentioned last week that my daffodils were about to bud out, well they did. I am enjoying their early splendor. I managed to plant my snow peas (just before the temperature dropped to below freezing) and I hope they will make it. I covered them with a glass window, a sort of cold frame to protect them. We also spotted the herd of elk out on the island the other day eating the fresh spring grass. It was their first visit to our area this spring.
We are in West Linn to drop Stan off for a couple of days while we drive up to Seattle to visit with Marge and Tom Kane and attend the Northwest Steam Society annual meeting and luncheon. We will drive back to West Linn Saturday evening and come home on Sunday. The granddaughters are looking forward to taking care of Stan while we are on our Seattle trip and I am sure that they are going to spoil him rotten.
"Spring Forward"! Don't forget to turn your clocks forward as Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday! I'm not real sure I'm ready for that because I just got Stan on a Pacific Time schedule, and now we're going to change it again!
