IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

So another month begins. Before you know it, Thanksgiving will be here.

This will be short this week because there was really nothing exciting happening unless you want to hear about all the rain and wind we had. My goodness, the wet weather didn't let up all week and there wasn't much we could do about it. Now I get to clean up all the leaves blown down from the storms. As soon as the weather calms down that is.

The mystery has been solved! I always bring the bird feeders in at night (can't trust those pesky raccoons) and put them out again in the morning, full of food. For the last couple of days, the one small feeder that I place on the ground has been carried away to some other spot and I couldn't figure out who was doing it. The raccoons usually show up at night so I couldn't blame them. Well, the other day I was looking out my kitchen window and a squirrel was picking up the small feeder full of food with his teeth and dragging the dish away! I believe it's the same bully that has been dominating the other feeders. Most of the usual critters I have had around here have either hibernated or flown south for the winter, but not this guy!

I have also had a couple of hungry feral kittens arrive in our yard this week which has presented a problem. Cats and birds do not mix well. Anyway, they are pretty wild and won't let me near them and meanwhile they have been hanging out in our "church" and must be living on mice. I called the local animal shelter but they mainly cater to dogs. They will neuter them for me if I can capture them, but it will be my responsibility to either feed them or find them homes. Anybody want a cute kitten?

I didn't buy any candy for Halloween as we usually don't get any children down here. But we did have one, little Taylor (he is 4) came over in his fireman outfit so I dug around and finally came up with a granola bar for him. I'm sure that wasn't high on his list of treats! My granddaughters had a great Halloween. Luckily the rain stopped long enough for their father to take them around their neighborhood. Jadyn dressed as a genie, Jaysa as a vampire and Jordyn was Rapunzel. We got a picture from Leslie as well. Ten-year-old Paige was a very convincing Marilyn Monroe! 13-year-old Ashtin isn't really into trick or treating any more - she was playing volleyball that night!

The NBA regular season is finally here and the Blazers had their first home game on Wednesday so Dave left early to go into Portland and get ready for the broadcast. They beat LA which was great. They are off to a good start anyway. He drove home after the game in the driving rain and didn't get here until 1:30 a.m. The weather was terrible (windshield wipers on high speed for an hour) and there were a lot of deer on the road, so he was glad to make it home safely.

It looks like another "free" weekend coming up for us and if the weather is halfway decent, I am going to tackle the yard debris after our last big storm so I will be ready for the next one!

We're done with daylight saving time for a while. Don't forget to "Fall Back" this weekend!
