IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

collage We had a perfect weekend with the great weather while having Leslie and her family down. They arrived on Friday afternoon and since Dave had been out salmon fishing and he was lucky enough to catch a nice Chinook, we had fish for dinner that night. The next day, everybody wanted to go crabbing so they hitched up our small boat and headed for the bay. It took half the day, but they came home with six nice size crabs. One of the reasons it took so long was that they had to wait in line to get the crabs boiled and then they used the facilities at the marina to clean them. As soon as they got home the catch went on the table and we had fresh crab for dinner on Saturday night. Life is good. The kids had a great time and their folks got a chance to relax a little.

The first of the week I decided to tackle the jungle that has been taking over around the old church building. The ivy was starting to crawl inside and there were all sorts of blackberries and brush to deal with. I got one side of the church done with Dave's help hauling the brush away and finished up most of the back of the church on Thursday. We want to be able to get it cleared enough so that we can get the Kubota back there and remove some of the dirt that keeps getting pushed against the building. The other side of the church is mainly blackberry bushes and so I will prune them back. The guy who lives next to us doesn't clear away his brush so I have to contend with the blackberries annually.

Dave and I went in separate directions on Tuesday. He had an appointment for an ultrasound on his leg to see why it has been swelling. We haven't heard anything back on that yet. He also had a couple of errands to run while in town. He had to pick up some of his broadcast equipment at the Rose Garden because he will be helping with a football telecast over Labor Day weekend. He also checked in with his audiologist because his hearing aids have not been working. While he was there he had a hearing test. Meanwhile, I had a nail appointment in Tillamook and had to report to the doctor on the diet that I have been on. So far I have dropped 20 pounds. I would like to try for 30 more before I am happy. After a stop at the store we both made it back home at 6:00 that night.

An update on our daughter Lara's condition...she started her first of four chemotherapy treatments on Wednesday and the others will follow at three-week intervals. I drove into town to be her "chemo buddy" for the afternoon. She had to report to the doctor's office at 1:20 and she didn't get finished until 6:00 that evening. We really didn't know what to expect and we were quite impressed with the professionalism and compassion of the staff. They explained everything to us and what to expect. We knew it was going to be a long afternoon so we packed a bag full of reading material. We felt like we were taking a carry-on bag aboard an airplane. The room was large and sunny with several people lounging in chairs while they got their various treatments. The guy closest to us hadn't had a port inserted yet and the nurses were having a hard time finding a vein to use for his treatment. He felt like had been fighting with a porcupine. Needless to say, he was having a port installed the next day. A port is a temporary tube that they insert under the skin. It makes it easier during the treatments as this is where the chemo goes in. When we first arrived the nurse asked us which one was having the treatment, we pointed at each other! One needs to keep a sense of humor during times like this. They also furnished snacks and cold drinks which was nice. After the treatment, I took her home and since she was feeling pretty good, I decided to leave for home. I got back home around 8:45. All I can say is that Cancer sucks - big time! It breaks my heart to watch my beautiful daughter having to lie there while all these toxins are being put inside her. She is much braver than I would ever be. I checked on her today and she seems to be doing well so let us hope and pray this time will be easy for her.
