IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

If you compared the last couple of weeks with this one, it has been relatively quiet.

On Sunday, after doing some shopping at Costco and Home Depot, we met our friends, Bruce and Gail for dinner during their stop in Seaside. After that, we drove straight to West Linn to spend the night. Lara was scheduled for an appointment with her oncology surgeon on Monday and we wanted to "listen in" on what was happening with that. Lara was well prepared for this session and asked some very good questions. She likes her doctor and we felt reassured after the appointment. She has scheduled her surgery for July 13th. I don't know if I will be spending a lot of time in West Linn after the surgery, but I'm ready to go if she needs me.

After the session with the doctor, we stuck around in West Linn for a while. After school I picked up the girls and drove Jadyn to her tutor while Jaysa and I took off for the mall for a "late" birthday present. I have a tradition with the girls. We always go shopping on their birthday and I let them pick out a couple of outfits at their favorite place, Justice. We then go out to dinner at Red Robin where we celebrate with a free sundae. Jaysa is a picky shopper - she KNOWS what she likes and won't stop till she finds it - but we found a couple of things she liked at the store and we both scored because everything was 40% off! By the way - what a difference three years makes. It was three years ago this last week that this little angel had surgery to remove that tumor. Now, you'd never know she had a problem.
I was also able to spend some time with the other two girls after we got home. Both of them were locked into this puzzle and although I tried to help, they had things pretty much under control! It was late afternoon when we decided to head home - right in the middle of traffic! We stopped for a salad at Sweet Tomatoes, we got home around 8:00 that night.

The rest of the week has been pretty much as usual. I managed to get some more weeding done between rain showers but I am not even half way done. Either I am getting too old or I am taking a little bit longer doing it. I managed to spray the weeds in the path and driveways but it started raining a day later and I don't know how effective that will be. My vegetable garden is starting to sprout with all the seeds that I planted, so that is encouraging.

My oldest granddaughter, Ashtin and her mom, Leslie are headed for Washington, D.C. in a couple of weeks with some kids from her school. Ashtin is nearly 13 years old and we got some wonderful news about her that I have to share. Last spring she entered an essay contest about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. This is one of the stops that they will visit on their tour. She had a bit of "writer's block" when she started and brought the project with her on a visit to our place. We spent some time working with her and she had a good start on it by the time she left for home. Anyway, we found out last night that Ashtin won the contest and she will be the one that gets to place a wreath at the site of the Unknown Soldier. She won the honor over eight other students and we are so proud of her.

This weekend, Dave has to make a trip to Seattle for the NWSS board meeting. He is carpooling with two other members from the area so at least he won't be driving by himself. He hasn't been feeling very well lately and is scheduled to see his cardiologist next week for a check-up, so I'm glad he won't be driving the entire 10-hour round trip by himself.

As I said, kind of a quiet week. We did quietly mark the 100th birthday of Dave's dad on Sunday. It's hard to believe Lloyd has been gone for nearly 12 years. We still miss him so much. Dave's sister Leanna is headed out to visit her kids in Michigan next week and Dave will take her to the airport. The cardiologist next week, followed by dinner with our good friends Kay and Terri and a weekend full of race announcing next weekend mean more activity next week - but there hasn't been a lot to talk about this week.
