IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Today is our youngest daughter Leslie's birthday. What a joy she is. I don't know where the years have gone but she is all grown up now with two daughters of her own. I can remember when she was young and still at home. During high school, she was active in school sports -soccer and track mostly - and we would always go and watch her games. Then she was off to college but she still managed to come home on weekends to see us, but I think it was mainly to get her laundry done! Then, before we knew it, she was getting married to her high school sweetheart and she now has two beautiful daughters of her own and is busy with their lives. The circle of life is what it's all about. Happy birthday, Leslie, we love you and you make us proud.
Speaking of being proud of our daughters, we spotted this photo on the right on Facebook today. I haven't had a chance to ask Lara about it, but it says she was "recognized for her work in converting the bank's remote deposit merchants to the new SCO application." I have no idea what that means, but it sounds like a big deal and that makes us proud, so - way to go, Lara! Lara is the Business Development Officer for the West Linn branch of Pacific West Bank.
The first Friday of every month - which was last Friday - a bunch of us get together for scones, coffee and the latest gossip and worldly issues. We meet at the North County Recreation District in Nehalem and attendance is usually around four or five. But this last week, we had around 15 - and two dogs. We almost ran out of scones and coffee! It seems like the more I get involved, the more my list of acquaintances keeps growing and growing since I moved down to this small community.
Last Saturday, we decided to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at home. I fixed tacos with all the trimmings and made us a pitcher of Margaritas for the occasion. We love Mexican food and have found a couple of local places that satisfy our cravings, but I like to make them at home.
The weather has been cooperating this week for outdoor activities. I have been trying to catch up with some of my yard work and I am slowly making my way around the property. I have this "weed" that is called a false lily of the valley. I have to pull it out every year or it will take over my flower beds. It took me three days to weed out most of that stuff in one bed and I still have a long way to go.
Dave surprised me by fixing my big wheelbarrow yesterday. I broke it last year when the wheel fell off and I have been borrowing Leanna's to use while weeding. It is so nice to have my "big" wheelbarrow back in action - I can fill it with three times as much stuff before I have to dump it.
Dave finished up one of his projects this week. Last year, he built a storage shed to protect our garbage can from the raccoons. Now he has completed that by adding an extension of the shed with a shelf to keep all of his fuel cans in out of the weather. The cans were sort of taking over the place because there are so many. Now he has it all organized and it really looks great. He even roofed the shed to keep out the weather.
Last Monday, I worked with the garden club by washing and sprucing up the plants for our annual plant sale. The sale begins tomorrow and this week was our last chance to get things done. Dave and I have volunteered to pick up plants from a couple of home greenhouses where members have been storing them. We'll take them to the sale site and get the place ready today so we can open the doors for business first thing Saturday morning. Each year, people are waiting in line to get first shot at the goodies when we open the door.
Dave had a long day on Tuesday. He had to go to Portland for the Trail Blazer's annual luncheon that his radio announcer hosts each year. They used to hold it at the Red Robin when there were just a couple dozen people, but now so many people have been invited that he has moved it to the Rose Garden. It's quieter and there's plenty of parking and since most of those in attendance are employees, it's just a quick walk across the concourse for them. I was invited, but I passed this year because I had a Master Gardeners board meeting in Tillamook scheduled for the same time. After the lunch, Dave went to Gresham to help another guy from the broadcast crew with an electrical project and then he headed for Silverton. He went there to pick up our flatbed trailer from Leslie and Jason. They have the Kubota, but we needed the trailer so we can use it for the plant sale this weekend. We'll also use it for the upcoming annual Wheeler cleanup day the following weekend. Needless say, it was a long (300 miles) day for Dave and he didn't get back home until 7:00 p.m. I did save him some supper, and I think he went to bed shortly after he ate.
It looks like we are going to have a sunny Mother's Day and I hope everyone has a great day! We'll be back in the valley to celebrate the big day in addition to the triple birthdays - Leslie, Jaysa and Jason - over the weekend.
