IT'S FRIDAY the thirteenth, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We headed into Silverton to celebrate Easter with our families last weekend. We also had two granddaughter's birthdays which are a week apart to celebrate. Jadyn turned 9 on April 3rd and Paige turned 10 on April 9th so we always try to get together for that and take care of birthdays all at one time. I made Dave's favorite macaroni salad plus a 5-cup fruit salad to take along. Jason had fixed a beef brisket on the barbeque plus there was ham along with all the other goodies. We ate too much.
While we were in Silverton, we got to see their four little pigs that Ashtin and Paige are raising for their 4-H project this year. They are about 3 months old and are so darn cute but they won't be small for long. Of course, we couldn't leave without a dozen fresh eggs from their chickens which we always enjoy.
We spent Sunday night in West Linn as Dave had a game on Monday night and I had a date with Jadyn to take her out shopping and dinner at the Red Robin for her birthday. We found a couple of cute outfits for her and then got serenaded "Happy Birthday" plus balloons from the help at Red Robin. Jadyn had already been to Red Robin to celebrate her birthday once but she loves Red Robin and that is where she wanted to go again. We gave Paige some money for her birthday which went toward an Ipad tablet. She also got a cell phone she wanted from her parents so she was happy.
We got home after midnight on Monday and I had to get up early and go into Tillamook. I needed to get my blood drawn to renew my Lipitor prescription. The technician was new and I felt like he didn't quite know what he was doing but he managed to draw the blood and I was on my way for a bite to eat (I had to fast before the blood draw) before my next scheduled event which was a Master Gardener's board meeting at 10:00. After that, I had brought some 5-gallon buckets with me and headed for the Digester to fill them with cow manure. Usually they charge $15 for a truckload and the guy let me have the stuff for free! What a deal!! This stuff is great for my garden and potted plants. Next it was a quick trip to Freddies for some groceries and lunch and then I had a nail appointment at 2:00 p.m. before I left for home. On my way home, I stopped by to see a friend who has been down with Sciatica which has given her a lot of pain. She can't even walk it hurts so bad. Anyway, I wanted to see how she was doing before I headed for home. I finally made it back home by 4:30 in time to fix something for dinner. What a day!
I was joined by a couple of other ladies and we worked in the Park pulling weeds on our usual Wednesday morning work party. We managed to hit some nice weather so it wasn't so bad. Last Wednesday when we were working in the park, we got drenched by the rain. Hopefully we will have some halfway decent weather so I can get some yard work of my own done. Speaking of that, Dave got the tractor out and finished pulling up the rest of the Fuchsia hedge by the back parking area so I can replant a nice hedge of Escolonia there. The Fuchsia hedge had been there for quite a few years and had very thick and strong roots which were killers for me to pull out by hand, but the tractor worked great. A friend of mine gave me about 8 Escolonia bushes to plant there so as soon as I get the bed prepared, I hope to get them planted.
Dave has been running back and forth to Blazer games all week. It has been a grueling season as they tried to cram so many games in to make up for the strike that cost them the beginning of the season and now it is almost over. It hasn't been fun for the teams nor the fans, as the players were exhausted for most of the games and didn't perform well. The Blazers won't make the playoffs this year so the season will end soon in two weeks.
Tonight, Dave has a Blazer broadcast and he will spend the night in West Linn as he has to drive to Seattle on Saturday for a Northwest Steam Society board meeting. I will be getting up early on Saturday and taking a trip to Tillamook to Freddies for their annual Fuchsia sale. A bunch of us are getting baskets filled for our garden club plant sale in May. We are allowed three baskets per person so about seven of us our getting together to do that.
