It's Friday, my favorite day!!
Another week goes by and as always, I can't believe where the time goes. We had a great weekend in which we saw two excellent performances. The first one on Saturday night was at the Coaster Theater in Cannon Beach where we saw the "Gin Game". This was a two person play about an elderly man and an elderly woman who meet at a retirement home. He loves to play Gin Rummy and teaches the woman the game. Unfortunately, she drives him crazy because she wins every game! You can call it beginner's luck but he gets very frustrated. All in all it was very well done. The second performance was actually a series of skits portraying blind dates and other relationships and this was presented by the Riverbend Players in Nehalem. I laughed so hard I thought I would die. Small town theater is so neat because you know so many people in the plays.
Tuesday night we went to a benefit spaghetti dinner to raise money for a new handicapped ramp for the Pine Grove Community Center in Manzanita. This is an old building used by the community for different events. They had to tear down the old ramp because it was an inch on the other side of the adjacent property and the owner of that property is a scoundrel who won't even let people use his vacant lot to park their cars! Anyway there were tons of people at the all you can eat dinner so I hope they made a lot of money. We always enjoy attending those kinds of things. Not only is it for a good cause, but we always see a lot of people we know, so it really is a social occasion! The spaghetti was good too.
The fundraiser capped off a busy Tuesday for me. I had my weekly Master Gardeners class and then had to run from Tillamook back to Nehalem for the Garden Club meeting right after that. Those two events took all morning and most of the afternoon, so I was ready for someone else to provide dinner!
The weather has been stormy all week. We have had a lot of hail storms and on Saturday the wind gusted at about 40 mph. While Dave was returning from the Post Office, he saw a small trampoline hanging by the telephone line. The telephone company had to remove it. That is something you don't see every day! We left for Portland on Thursday with snow on the ground. You know what they say about March, in like a lion and out like a lamb. Of course we are leaving for our trip down south where temperature promises to be higher but so will the gas prices.
We had our city Park and Rec. meeting on Thursday. The chairman of the committee submitted her resignation and so guess who got asked to take her spot? Yes, the same person who just last week said I wasn't going to do any more volunteering. Also we had another person resign, so we have two vacant spots to fill. Do I have any takers? I told the committee I need all the help I can get.
We are in Portland all weekend as Dave is bombarded with three games to engineer before we leave for our road trip Tuesday morning. We will be away from home for three weeks so my next entry will be on the road.
