IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
No it is not really Friday, but let's pretend. My webmaster husband is going to be gone Thursday night and so I am writing this just a little earlier than I usually do. He has to run into Portland for a Blazer broadcast and it will be well past midnight before he gets back home. So to save him some time, I am writing this a little earlier so all he has to do is post it when he gets home. And you just thought it magically showed up on Friday morning!
Between rain showers on Sunday, Dave and I managed to haul all of our yard debris down to the burn pile at Kahrs. We tried to pile it all into one load but decided there was too much stuff and had to make two trips. It is amazing how much debris can be collected on just a half an acre, especially after a few storms! Greg came down and pruned a lot of my trees last month, and that contributed to the load as well. The pile is out of my sight for now and this spring Dave will help Des burn it. We have another big project that we are planning on doing later this spring or summer. We have a large cedar hedge in front of our property that was planted over 40 years ago and has helped tremendously with the noise from all the traffic on Highway 101. But sadly, the hedge has a fungus that is slowly killing it and so we will have to remove it. It will be quite an undertaking and our kids have offered to help us with that job. After it is cut down and the ground leveled, we are going to plant a smaller hedge of Escellonia, which thrives in our coastal climate.
Since Dave was going to be gone on Valentine's Day (another Blazer game), he took me out to dinner on Monday night. We went to a local restaurant and had the best halibut fish and chips. They were not greasy like they are most of the time and there were plenty of them. We usually give each other cards and mine was waiting for me on Tuesday morning by my breakfast cereal. I had to spend the day at Master Gardeners on Tuesday so I was gone all day. However, we had more than our share of treats at the class (we gardeners like to eat as well as dig in the dirt). Members brought chocolate dipped strawberries, brownies, cookies and candy. So I didn't feel deprived at all.
Talk about sticker shock! We decided that we needed to get new tires for the Jeep since we are going to be going on this long road trip in March and there wasn't a whole lot of tread left on the old ones. So Dave went off to the tire store to get that done and was quite shocked when it came time to pay the bill. Boy, those tires cost more than I paid for my first car! But to justify the cost, we figured if we can get 56,000 miles from them like we did on the first set of tires, we should be okay. It is also comforting to know that we should have safe travels on our trip.
No pics this week. I don't know why we don't think about taking a few pictures around here. We get busy doing things and when it is all over, it hits us that we didn't take any pictures or that we left the camera at home. The kids are coming down this weekend because they have Monday off for President's Day, so hopefully we can snap a few pictures while they are here.
