IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We started our three-day weekend with house guests. My daughter, Lara and her family came down on Saturday and stayed till Monday. I had asked them down specifically so I could get her husband, Greg to trim some of my bushes and trees around our place. Since he does this for a living, I was sure he would do a super job and that he did. The place looks great! We now have a trailer and a-half load of debris to haul to the burn pile. The girls always enjoy coming to visit us and they had a good time and managed a trip to Cannon Beach while they were here.
Luckily, Greg got all the trimming done by Sunday as we woke up on Monday morning to a blanket of snow on the ground. It was a winter wonderland down here and the grandkids went wild. Why is it kids love the snow so much? They were out filling buckets of snow and shaking snow out of the bushes and getting wet and freezing cold and that wouldn't even stop them. After a while, Jordyn called it an afternoon, though. She had a picture that she had been working on all weekend long and she really wanted to finish it! After everyone had their fill of the snow, they gathered all of their belongings and headed out around noon on Monday. It never fails - no matter how much they scour the place for all of their belongings; they always manage to leave something behind. This time it was a cap of Greg's. They were a little concerned about the ride home and what the roads were going to be like going over the summit, but they didn't have any problems.
The rest of the week we have been hit by high winds (45 mph gusts) and pelting rain. I guess Mother Nature is making up for lost time as the month of December was dry and sunny. Oh well, I knew it was too good to last. The winds have settled down for now but we are experiencing high water levels because of all the rain and at high tide, the island is completed covered.
A few of us diehards made it to the pool for our aerobics classes this week in spite of the weather. On Wednesday - with such high winds - there were only six of us that showed up for class. It was kind of fun as we had plenty of room to move around. Some of the ladies don't like to venture out when the weather is bad. I guess I am just used to it being a true Oregonian and all.
Speaking of weather-related problems, our first Master Gardener's class which was scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled because the speaker couldn't make it through the snow and hurricane-force winds. We will have two classes next week, on Tuesday and then the makeup class on Friday so I will be busy.
Yesterday, just to get out of the house for an afternoon, we headed for Costco to pick up a few things. Dave needed to get the new Turbo Tax so he can get out the 1099's to all the engineers that do business with him. He will also use the program to do his sister's taxes. We have our friendly tax accountant do ours as we have too many deductions to deal with. I picked up some much-needed items for the house before we stopped at Freddy's to get more groceries. I was starting to get cabin fever and it was nice to get away.
Dave is loving his new Smart Phone. In fact, he uses it constantly and he can't seem to put it down. I am beginning to feel a little slighted by all the attention he gives it. It has so many features that he hardly uses the computer anymore. You would think it would be easier to look at a "big" screen on a computer instead of an envelope-size screen on the phone. The other night, I decided to text him a message telling him that I was "going to bed, nightie, night, kiss, kiss". I think it got his attention.
Guess what? We have a free weekend with nothing planned. I think I will just relax and watch it rain some more.
