This month's calendar                                 Archives
IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
I hope you are not superstitious about it being Friday the 13th, but it is here!
It was kind of an uneventful week as I remember. It started out with rain and I thought to myself, "here we go again" but it only lasted over the weekend and it has been nice ever since. Cold, but nice and sunny. We are expecting another storm by this weekend and the possibility of snow above 500 feet. Fortunately, we don't have to drive over the mountains this weekend, so we can crank up the heat and sit here and watch the storms.
After this journal was posted last week, Dave and I went over to the recreation district Friday morning for coffee and scones. They host a "First Friday Scones" event every month, and it's fun to go over there and socialize with others in the community over some goodies that we don't usually get for ourselves.
Dave headed into Portland for an early game on Sunday, so I organized a "girl's afternoon at the movies". I got a few friends together and we rode up to the theater in Seaside. We all had read the three books in the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" series and were curious to see the movie version of the first book. It was an entertaining afternoon, but we all agreed that we liked the book a lot better than the movie.
Following a holiday break, my water aerobics classes began again on Monday - and not a day too soon for me. I really miss not getting up and exercising with all the other ladies in our class each morning. Our instructor was easy on us this week since we have been off for three weeks. I'm sure the fact that the time off had been over the holidays where everyone had over-indulged had something to do with it too. There was the usual group of gals and we also had a couple of newbies who showed up on Monday. As usual, by Thursday the classes had dwindled down to the usual attendees.
Our Master Gardeners orientation class started on Tuesday and I have volunteered to be a mentor this year for the new people. (I haven't learned to say "NO" yet). We started out with only ten people signing up for the classes but after we made a few phone calls to the "potentially-interested" list, we ended up with 21 students. There are about 14 mentors who are helping out so I won't have to attend every class if I let them know ahead of time. The orientation lasted until noon and then I ran a few errands while I was in Tillamook and got home late in the afternoon.
Wednesday was a walk in the park with the town arborist who showed those of us on the Park and Rec. committee which trees and shrubs need to be pruned or transplanted. The plantings have really taken off since we established the park five years ago and it is getting a little crowded. So there is lots of work ahead of us to get the park in shape for summer.
I had an appointment with the surgeon who is going to give me a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks. I have never had one before and am not looking forward to it. But I promised myself I would do this after my bladder cancer surgery and all the problems I had with that. I guess there is nothing to the procedure itself, but the preparation isn't fun. Those of you who have had one of these know what I mean!
Dave was gone most of the week. He had back-to-back Blazer broadcasts on Tuesday and Wednesday and since the Wednesday night game went late, he stayed over until Thursday. That's the last of the travel for a couple of weeks. The team is on the road for most of the next two weeks and we have nothing we really have to do in the valley. So after this weekend, we'll stay close to home.
On my way to my aerobics classes the other day, I drove by a whole herd of elk. What a surprise! I guess THAT is something you don't see in the big city on your way to work! They were happily grazing in a small lot on the edge of town and didn't mind the traffic slowing down to take a look. I am sorry I didn't have my camera with me.
Tomorrow, Dave and another steamer will be leaving for Seattle to attend a board meeting of the Northwest Steam Society and will be returning the same day. It makes for a long, long trip to Seattle and back (10 hours driving, three hour meeting) and if he wasn't accompanied by someone, I would probably go along. It was one year ago (January 9th) that Dave had his second stroke, and it happened after returning from this same meeting in Seattle.
No pictures this week - I forget to take my camera with me when I'm out and about and I pay the price when it comes time to post the journal.
