IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Spring finally decided to make an appearance with two beautiful days of warm and dry weather just before summer took over. It was just enough to give my garden and flowers the boost they needed. So we are enjoying fresh lettuce and snow peas in our salad each night for dinner- from the garden. The rest of the things I planted are up and coming along nicely as well.
Now it is summer. We started out with a bang with temperatures reaching in the 80's for a couple of days and then it got cloudy and rainy again. Dave had to invest in some new rain gear to take with him to the races over the weekend because of the forecast. It was a good thing too, because in spite of the rain gear he was miserably wet and cold. He came dragging home on Sunday night tired and deaf (from the loud noises at the track) and vowed that this was going to be his last year broadcasting the races. He is committed to the NASCAR race in July but I think that will be it for him.
As he left the races on Sunday evening, he hurried to Hillsboro to try to catch the end of Paige's soccer game. Her team was playing for the championship in the THUSC United Cup. He missed the game, but got there in time to catch everyone before they left for home. Paige's team won the game 3-1 and she scored all three goals! He was disappointed that he wasn't able to watch the game, but glad to get a chance to see everyone. We did get a picture of Paige with her championship medal. Her team is called "En Fuego" - on fire! Look at the great socks!
While Dave was gone, I enjoyed a nice peaceful weekend at home catching up with the weeds. We had pretty decent weather although it rained a couple of times. I am slowing down myself and don't seem to have as much energy as I used to. I am good for about a couple of hours and then I have to take a break. I just have to learn that the weeds will be waiting for me tomorrow.
I had a doctor's appointment last Friday so I could get a prescription for my thyroid refilled. They always do a blood test to check me before they will renew my drugs. My appointment was at 10:30 and I had to fast for my blood test. I got mighty hungry by the time that was over, believe me. I had to stop at Fred Meyer after my appointment to pick up a few things and ran to Starbucks for a coffee and a treat before I did my shopping. It is always a good idea to not go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. By the time I got back home I received a call from the doctor giving me my test results which were excellent.
The rest of this week has been pretty busy with appointments. I had to be in the Master Gardener's extension office all afternoon on Monday for payback hours. We didn't have very many plant problems to solve and so it was kind of boring. Dave volunteered at the Visitor's Center on Monday afternoon and he said he was bored too. I had to run into Hillsboro on Tuesday to get my scheduled mammogram and get my teeth cleaned. I returned home in time for the two of us to stop in Rockaway Beach and grab a bite to eat before Dave's city council meeting that evening.
We had a couple of wildlife sightings this week too. The herd of elk was grazing on the island this week and they are always intriguing to watch. We even have cars stopping alongside the road to view them. Dave was working out in the boat barn and sighted a deer and her very young baby walking down our street. The baby couldn't have more than three months old and still had spots on it. They are fun to watch as long as they stay out of my yard and don't nibble on my flowers. Since I have been taking pot shots at the raccoon with the BB gun, we don't see him very often. When he does come around and once he sees us, he is gone. Maybe it's the gun in our hands that scares him away! The raccoon did manage to tip over the garbage can during the evening and spread garbage all over the place. So it is back putting the can inside the boat barn until Dave gets the shed finished where we can store the garbage can.
I am looking forward to having my sister Jeanne from Phoenix drop in this weekend. She is in Oregon to attend a conference in McMinnville over the weekend. She and her friend Barbara will be stopping by our place when they are done with the conference.
We are still working on getting the steamboat up and launched. It is hard to believe that the 4th of July is just around the corner. Between working on the boat and trying to get a few other projects completed around here, time really flies by.
