IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Just the usual routine going on around here, considering the weather that most of the country has been having with record snowfalls and below freezing temperatures, I am not going to complain about a few rain showers and 60 degree weather that we have been having. I almost feel guilty! It sure feels like spring outside so I am busy planning what kind of things I want to plant in my vegetable garden and ordering seeds from the catalog.
We have had more visitors to the bird feeders. It is just fascinating to me watching their antics. I caught this downy woodpecker on the suet the other day, busy drilling away on the feeder. With the size of his beak, all the other birds stand back and watch him but they do manage to catch a few of the crumbs he drops on the ground.
We spent the weekend staying close to home. I attended an "emergency" drill in Manzanita on Saturday morning. They are doing what we did in Wheeler about three months ago. They had scenarios where the neighborhood captains call in on their radios during an emergency. Since our town had gone through it before, we were asked to come and observe them and make suggestions. It was a great drill and it looks like Manzanita has their act together. Afterwards, I rushed home and started getting ready for some visitors that were coming later on. An old school friend and his wife were in the area and they called to see if they could drop by for a visit. I invited them to stay for dinner. It was an enjoyable evening.
Monday, Dave had to drive into town for a Blazer broadcast and I stayed at home because of my Master Gardener's class on Tuesdays. He got back home around 1:00 a.m. as he decided to drive home after the game. Lara had reported that one of the granddaughters had an ear infection and was throwing up. Dave didn't want to take the chance of getting sick again since he is almost over his bronchitis.
Tuesday was our youngest granddaughter's third birthday. Jordyn and her mommy spent her birthday at the zoo and hanging out together. She had a little party with some of her friends last Sunday at her favorite place, Chuck E. Cheese's. We will be celebrating her birthday this Saturday with a family get-together, and will be getting some photos then.
I had another informative class on Tuesday in Master Gardeners. We had a lecture on growing vegetables and taking care of lawns. So far, these classes have been very enjoyable and I feel I am learning so much. Today I will help in the Learning Garden out by the Tillamook County Fairgrounds. It is part of the hourly payback time that I need to fulfill. I have to give back about 100 hours to different Master Garden projects and office time answering questions from people. I guess that is what I will be doing this summer!
Dave is doing much better. He went to the regular doctor on Friday and got an antibiotic for his cough that he hasn't been able to shake. He is about 95% recovered from the stroke, which is about as good as it is going to get. I am still taking his blood pressure every day and he has been real good about watching what he eats and has been taking his walks on the treadmill. He goes back to the cardiologist next week and he will be starting with his tests. Life is good.
