IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Last weekend was activity-packed with lots of things going on. We had an emergency preparedness meeting on Saturday morning in Manzanita with all the other neighborhood captains, where we learned to operate our FRS radios (over and out) and then another zone captain and I had to get up and tell of our experiences with the drill that we preformed with our FRS radios last week in Wheeler. We have a lot of practicing to do but as a whole, everything went pretty smoothly. We were given different scenarios like people reporting house fires and trees down, etc., in which to respond and report to our commander headquarters. I felt like the first day on the job as a 911 operator!

Sunday evening was the Winston Churchill performance that Dave was in. Dave was the announcer and the rest of the readers performed some of Churchill's famous speeches during the war when he was Prime Minister of England. It was nicely done and very educational.

I went to a couple more of my therapy sessions this week for my right knee. After all the torture and manipulating I have been through, I am beginning to feel some results. My knee is about 80% better than it was just a couple of weeks ago. I have just a couple more sessions and then I will be on my own. I think I will be completely well by then. I have been doing my water aerobics classes and even attended the deep water aerobics class a couple of times. The deepwater class is held in the evenings so it works out pretty well with my schedule.

Wreath

We have been having some nasty weather this week. A storm came in on Wednesday with high winds, lots of rain and hail, so I have been hunkered down on the La-Z-Boy reading a good book most of the time or watching the antics of the squirrels at the feeders. They have been hanging upside down from the suet feeder and trying to eat while keeping their balance in the wind. We tried to get a picture but they were too fast for us! Between storms, our garden club managed to have a workshop on Tuesday and we all gathered around a nice warm fire pit at the home of one of the members and made holiday wreaths. We do this every year and it is really a lot of fun to see some of the creations that each member does with a few fir boughs and some holly.

Stumps

A few weeks ago, we cleaned out a bunch of Tam Juniper from an area in the back yard, exposing four tree stumps that had been there for years. It's been interesting to watch how the wet weather has affected those stumps. A couple of weeks ago, mushrooms started growing on them and they haven't stopped yet. I'm not sure how mushrooms growing on a rotten stump can be beautiful, but they are! We will eventually take the stumps out and the plan is to replant the area with a Japanese Lace Leaf Maple, long stemmed grasses and a fountain. In the meantime, we have our mushrooms!

We headed into Portland on Thursday as Dave has some Blazer broadcasts again. We will stay in town all next week for a total of nine days. The reason we are staying in town for so long is because Lara's girls are out of school all next week and I told her that I would take care of the granddaughters while she worked. Because of the school finances this year, the kids are out all week for Thanksgiving instead of just the two days as usual. It really makes for a hardship on families who depend on the schools to be open during the times when you are not planning on needing a sitter and have to scramble around looking for someone. Anyway, I have been thinking of some ways of entertaining them next week.

We'll take advantage of our time in town to visit some people. Dave's cousin has moved back to Portland from Montana and they want us to come by and see some photos of their recent trip to the East Coast. Tonight, were going to go down to Leslies to catch up with them. We'll go out to dinner and visit for a while. It will be good to see all of them - I haven't had a good grandma fix from those two grandgirls for a while! Speaking of them, I think we're going to take Ashtin and Paige with us when we take our annual vacation in Arizona this spring. They'll miss a couple of days of school, but it will be a nice break for them and they'll get to meet some cousins they've never seen. I think we'll get the tickets this week.

Our Thanksgiving will be getting us all together at Leslie's place. Of course we will bring something for the table and usually end up stuffing ourselves with food. I have a lot to be thankful for and hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and are able to enjoy this holiday with their families.
