IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
First of all, a progress report on my knee injury from last week. I went to the doctor last Friday and the first thing he wanted me to do was to take an x-ray. I had to remind him that I had an x-ray in June when I was in then. So we skipped the x-ray and after pinpointing the part of my knee that hurt, he decided that I had tendonitis and recommended physical therapy. If that doesn't help, then we'll have to go through the MRI process to figure it out. He also suggested that I take Ibuprofen twice a day. I started taking the Ibuprofen right away and I could start feeling the difference. Because of my schedule, I won't be able to start the therapy until this coming week. It will be at the office in Wheeler so at least it will be convenient. I went back to my aerobics classes and have been feeling pretty good this week; the knee really hasn't been a problem.
We didn't have any trick or treaters this year, but then we never do. I don't even bother buying any treats. We did see a few ghosts and goblins out in other neighborhoods before it got dark though. Of course, our granddaughters all enjoyed the holiday and even little Jordyn who is 2-1/2 years old thought it was pretty cool to be able to knock on people's doors and get candy! It was fun to get photos of our grandgirls in their costumes. I sure do miss not seeing all the kids coming to the door with their costumes on.
We attended the "cast party" after the final performance of the reader's theater's "Radio Daze" on Sunday evening. It was a lot of fun getting together with all of the cast members. They were pretty excited because they had a very good turnout for all four of their performances. The director gave everyone a "gag" gift and Dave got a toy microphone since he was cast as a radio announcer. He had to wear a tux and everything and he looked so handsome in his outfit! He's going to keep the tux for another couple of weeks because he has another performance coming up. This one is a one-night stand with a group reading Winston Churchill's speeches from the time leading up to and during World War II.
We were hammered by all the wind and rain earlier this week. It blew so hard that a part of one of our trees (it has three trunks all grown together) gave up to Mother Nature and finally fell down. It fell on the electrical lines that go from the power pole to our house, so we called the local PUD to see if they would come and remove it. They were on it in less than a half an hour after we had called with four trucks and about a half a dozen workers! Is that service or what? They cut the tree from the lines and the next morning a shredder came by and ground up all the debris. Dave still had to cut up part of the trunk that he wanted to save for firewood. We were lucky we didn't lose power when the tree came down. The wire was stretched taut by the weight of the tree, but it didn't break!
The sun finally came out on Tuesday and Wednesday and we had two unbelievable beautiful fall days with temps in the seventies. I took advantage of the nice weather and cleaned up all the debris from the storm and pruned back some bushes. I also got the lawn mowed and Dave cleaned out the gutters which had been overflowing in the storm. I couldn't believe that we had such gorgeous weather for the first part of November. It has been great but I know that eventually the winds and rains will return.
The city has been working on a plan to make city hall completely ADA accessible, and this week, the new, wider front door went in. After an inner door is widened next week, the office will be completely accessible for people in wheelchairs for the first time ever! In conjunction with the accessibility work, a group of volunteers has been getting the office cleaned up too. All of the old carpet has been removed and the walls have been repainted. The new carpet will be installed in another week. Dave has been working on getting the doors and windows trimmed with new wood. He spent all day Wednesday up there measuring and cutting material for window trim and floor molding. It's going to look real nice when they get it done in another week or so.
We drove into Portland on Thursday as Dave has two Blazer broadcasts - one Thursday night and then again on Saturday night. There is no sense in driving back and forth for the two games and besides I need to catch up on some grandkids stuff. After Dave dropped me off at Lara's, I walked down to the babysitter's to pick up Jadyn, my 7-year-old granddaughter. The school bus drops her off there, and since I was available, I offered to pick her up. It was a nice sunny day and we had an enjoyable walk home. She's such a chatterbox - I don't think she was quiet for a second all the way home! After we got back, we sat down and started on her homework. She had some math story problems to do and she dug right in and got them done. Her teacher has a different way to solve those problems than the way I would have done them, so it was an education for both of us! After that was done, we took advantage of the quiet house and did some reading before she was released to her after-school TV programs. Since Dave was gone all evening, I had tacos for dinner with the family.
Today, I'm getting my hair cut and then going over to my sister Judy's to take her out shopping. It's difficult for her to get around, much less shop, so it will make it easier for her if I go along. Leslie and Jason wanted to get rid of their old computer, and we told her that she could donate it to her aunt. So, if Judy wants it, we'll be installing it at her house either tomorrow or the next time we're in town.
