IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!

UPDATE!! We're having a great time on our Alaska cruise, but the shipboard internet connection is soooo slooooow, that I'm going to wait until we get back to update the journal. Check back Sunday evening.

Girls on computer We went into town a day earlier than we had planned last week. Lara has a full stable of child care people, but came up against a brick wall when all of them had things they had to do last Friday - mostly having to do with returning to school. So we volunteered to spend the day with the girls. They're really pretty easy to entertain. They love to work on our laptop computer, and that can keep them busy for hours. Between the computer and other games, we managed to get through the day just fine.

Nametag Last weekend was a fun time. We went to Dave's 50th high school reunion on Saturday night and it was held at the Doubletree Hotel by Lloyd Center in Portland. The team that organized the whole event did a great job considering it was an all-boy's school and the girls are the ones that usually put the reunions together. Dave and I got there early as he was the MC and I helped with the table decorations. Class members started arriving around 6:00 p.m. for the social hour and we had a delicious meal after that. Then there was about a half-hour program where Dave told a few jokes (and was glad everyone laughed at the right times), introduced the speaker and wrapped it all up so people could do what they came to do - talk! There were about 200 people attending and I didn't know a soul. Thank goodness the committee was smart enough to put the classmate's senior picture on their nametag or nobody would have recognized anyone. It was so much fun to see the expression on their faces when they did recognize someone. By 9:30 everyone was yawning and most of the people were heading for the doors.

On Sunday, they had a picnic at Oaks Park for all the classmates. They had a display of old cars and everyone sat around and talked some more. We had to leave early, as we needed to be at our oldest granddaughter's birthday party in Silverton. Ashtin turned eleven on Sunday. She had been birthday partying all weekend and was a little tired but it was just family anyway. She got a laptop computer for her birthday and lots of gift certificates to spend. After loading up on fresh eggs from Paige's chickens and one-half of a pig from Ashtin, we headed back home and arrived around 6:30 Sunday evening.

Monday we got ready for Lara and family to come and spend the week with us. They took their vacation this last week before school starts. The girls have been having lots of fun, fishing, crabbing and going to the beach. It rained a couple of the days and although I hated to see it rain, we did need it. They also made a trip to Seaside to ride on some of the carnival rides and to visit the Candyland store. The kids caught a couple of crabs and we had crab for dinner one night.

I had a doctor's appointment on Monday in Tillamook to find out the results of my blood tests. It seems I am pretty healthy and everything is great. I guess I have been doing the right stuff and like I say, it is all maintenance once you start getting old!

We are getting ready for our weeklong cruise and will leave for Seattle today. We will be spending the night with our dear friend Sherry DeBoer who has a summer home on Hood Canal in Belfair, Washington. It is also Dave's birthday today so us girls are going to take him out for dinner to celebrate. On Saturday morning we will catch the Seattle ferry in Bremerton. Another friend will meet us in Seattle and she will drive our car to the cruise ship where we will board for our trip. We are really looking forward to getting away.

Since we will be on our cruise, I don't know if there will be a journal next Friday. We think there will be Internet on the ship, but we also think it will be expensive. So, we'll see. If not, I will have plenty of pictures and hopefully some stories to tell after we get home on the 11th.
